Model 29 re barrel

I would like to have my 8 3/8 in Model 29 made more carry friendly. Professionally. Should/is that something only for the Performance center? Would they rebarrel or just cut down and re crown the original ? It hurts to think of altering this beauty but I would definitely use it more with a shorter barrel. Thanks.

I rebarreled this 629 using this book about 15 years ago. I got the barrel from Numrich, it was brand new old stock from S&W. The most difficult part was making the barrel jig and frame wrench.
