Somehow I managed to bend the extractor rod on my mod 36 2".
I took it apart and sure enough, it rolled with a wobble.
I just got a new one in the mail from Brownells.
I screwed it in and closed it up. The cylinder turns fine, and when I push the rod it moves freely in the cylinder, but, when I try to open the cylinder by pushing the cylinder release, it doesn't want to open from the frame. I tapped it with a rubber mallet and it opens, but it won't open by hand. I measured the old and the new rods. The old one is 1.2655" and the new one is 1.2700".
Is this difference in length the problem, and I so, I was thinking of filing down the non knerled end a tad. Would this be a good idea?

Yes - that is the way to get the proper fit. Take minimum required off the rod.

Yes the difference is definitely the problem! The rod should not extend past the ctr pin when the pin is pushed in flush to the extractor star from the rear (with cyl open).

I think Judge posted his delete message because he realized that won't work on a Model 36 series or the 38 S&W Model 32/33.

The usual way to fit the rod length is at the front end. However, you can fit it to length from the back end, but not by removing metal from the rod. You must remove metal from the front tip (the threaded end) of the extractor star.

I tried Judge's suggestion, and after filing off some material from the non-knerled end of the new tube it still did not open easily, so I carefully bent the original tube back to true and now it works fine.;)
