Hello Folks,

Recently my wife's best friend gave me a 95+% model 38-2 Bodyguard. She retired and is moving to a very liberal state and no longer believes she has any use for it. I happily accepted it. Seems like an excellent hiking pocket gun. It's an odd duck, and I'm wondering what it is worth. Serial number is BKR8003. Thanks, Tom H.

Box and docs or just the gun? That's about 1992. In Charlotte, that's $425 -$525 for just the gun. Somebody might price it higher but that's the reasonable range. Might even be able to do a bit better.

Thanks a bunch NCbeagle. My guess was about $500 without box and stuff. As noted, it's not very attractive from a design standpoint. I've given it an Ezeox bath and my guess is she shot it about 10 times and put it in a drawer. Top strap has minor abrasions on one side from rubbing against something.

I think the 38–2 is an attractive snubby. I have a soft spot for the similar J frames like 442 (no dash) from 1993 or so. No markings in the left side is a nice clean look too.

That's a $500 gun any day of the week, perhaps $50-100 more to the right person.

I'm quite fond of the M38, so my estimate may be a bit high just because I hold them in such high esteem.
