Model 3906. Good things are produced in small numbers.

Well, since the thread is now revived again...

My brother found a 3906 about 2 years ago for $400. At the time I didn't know much about it and decided to pass. About 2 weeks later I decided I would like to have it after more research, but when we called, it was gone. :( Fast forward to about 6-9 months ago. I found a 3904 at a LGS. Got it out the door for about $360. It was a little rough, but I cleaned it up, bead blasted the slide and cold blued. Made it look like a new gun. Had some shiny spots on the alloy frame and touched it up with the Alumu Black sold by Birchwood Casey. It didn't darken it completely, but really improved the looks. I like it. Doesn't group off a rest liked I had hoped, but I may need to play with the loads some more. It does have the adjustable rear sight.

Since this thread has been revived... If you did a good job, the cold blue you applied to the slide will probably be just as durable as the black oxide S&W used on the third gen carbon steel pistols.

What was the group's size at what range?
I remember reading on this forum how to get started bead blasting with items from Harbor Freight. Never done it though.
Just picked up a 5906 in beautiful condition $400 out the door.
I love seeing the old threads!
Best To You Always Rosewood!
