Model 41 Ammunition Problems

High Velocity ammo only beats the heck out of the M41's and M46's. The spring tension in a M41 is set for CCI -SV ammo. It makes sence to me as it works in the vast majority of M41's and has for many years as well. Plus they are cleaner burning powder and much more accurate then many others as well.

Try CCI Standard Velocity.....
M41's can be a little finicky and you may have to hunt around for something it likes. Be careful with any High Velocity stuff. It can batter the gun more than you might like.

(Just pray that it doesn't decide it likes Eley Tenex or similar..;))

I just noticed that you only have 300 rounds through it. That's not even a good start on break-in....)

I AGREE THAT THIS ROUND COUNT IS TOO LOW TO COME TO ANY CONCLUSIONS---ESP WITH A .22 CALIBER SEMI-AUTO. THIS PISTOL NEEDS TO BE BROKEN IN. THERE IS NO SHORTCUT, LIKE DRY FIRING.......

IN MY 60 YEARS OF SHOOTING--INCLUDING 3 DECADES OF BULLSEYE COMPETITION--I HAVE SHOT JUST ABOUT EVERY BRAND AND TYPE OF AMMO AVAILABLE, FROM BULK JUNK TO HIGH END "MATCH" AMMO, INCLUDING CCI STANDARD VELOCITY, AND GREEN TAG......

I HAVE SETTLED ON CCI MINI-MAG, 40GR SOLIDS, EXCLUSIVELY, FOR USE IN ALL OF MY .22 CALIBER FIREARMS. THEY ARE NOT HYPER VELOCITY, SO THEY DON'T NEEDLESSLY "BATTER" A SEMI-AUTO. THE BULLETS ARE COPPER WASHED, AND MUCH CLEANER SHOOTING THAN LUBED LEAD BULLETS. THEY HAVE A MINISCULE FAILURE TO FIRE OR EJECT RATE---LESS THAN 1 IN A BRICK OF 500. THEY ARE VERY ACCURATE IN MY RUGER MK-II, GOVERNMENT TARGET MODEL, AND EVERYTHING ELSE THAT I SHOOT......

IMHO---THEY ARE WORTH A TRY IN YOUR M41......

I may be real touchy, but I used to hate being next to someone using HV during a Bullseye match when everyone else was using SV. I found the extra volume of the HV rounds distracting.

Kind of: bam, bam, BANG!, bam, bam, etc........;):eek:

I agree with one eye joe.
I bought a new M41, PC last fall. The manual says
ammunition to use is .22LR. The gun is made for 22 LR, no battering. From the 1st shot out of the new M41 till now, CCI Mini Mags. Never once had a problem of any kind and they are very accurate.

Due to competition, a M41 is expected to fire a lot of rounds. If the Mothership thought anything but Standard or Low Velocity was needed to prevent battering, they would say so to cover themselves in event of a warranty issue......Nope just 22LR, your choice.

The CCI-SV ammo should work the best in your M41. Remember to put a drop of oil on your slides and down by your safety before every shooting session. I personally wonder if there is a problem with the angle of your extractor which could cause these type of issue's.

Another vote for SV ammo, and a drop of Rem oil or Starrett oil on the top round of the magazine. I also use EEZOX on the slide rails. EEZOX is a lighter fluid like consistency lube that dries up. Use sparingly as it spreads thin and not much is needed. It also doesn't gum up with powder like oil does. I still wipe the outside down with an oiled cloth for protection.

Aguila SV ammo that I tried is pretty anemic, a bit dirty, but was accurate out of my 41. I did have cycling issues that were cured with a lighter Wolff spring. I used the heaviest spring out of the kit of 5 or 6 springs that would cycle reliably.
When I try new ammo, I go back to the factory spring. CCI SV always works well, Norma Match and the Federal Automatch or 711b have been solid performers too.
