I recently acquired from a family friends estate a S&W Model 41.
I had a couple of questions on the pistol.
It is the 5.5 inch bull barrel model. The serial number is UAW1044.
Would this have been made in 1997 / 1998?
Also at this manufacture time would they have been drilling the factory rib for a rail to mount a scope. It has 4 holes in the top but they are missing the screws. I would like to obtain factory screws if it came with them.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Ended up calling S&W, made in 2000

Brownel's or someone like them will probably be able to supply the screws you need I would think. They should be not that hard to obtain at all.

I am the original owner of a UAW prefix gun.Yes,the d+t is factory.

You can also try numrich gun parts. Also for reference on manufacture date and history you can acquire a letter from Jinks.

I found myself in the same situation after buying my used 2007 model 41 that didn't have plug screws in the holes on the barrel. I had just recently purchased a new Ruger RAR bolt action rifle in .22 magnum that I had added a scope to. I thought to myself,"I wonder if the plug screws from the Ruger would fit my model 41 ?" They did fit perfectly, and that's where they reside today.

Thank You for that update. Good to know in case for the future. I do have one of those small gunsmith screw kits. I suspect they will be in there as there's doz's of different sizes in it.

The screw holes are standard 6-48 as on any other gun. Do you have a LGS or gunsmith? If so go ask them, they will probably be glad to give you some.

Typically, when mounting a scope, they just throw them in a box, (or the garbage!) as spares. I have never known a shop to return them with the gun, although there are probably exceptions.

Brownell's doesn't list this part on their website/schematics. I already tried to order these from them a few months ago. You're best bet is to call S&W, they'll probably send you 4 for free.

Called Smith and Wesson, very helpful. Envelope received within a few days but had 3 screws in it not 4! I am sure I will get the 4th with a simple phone call.

Great company to work with
