I'm not talking about the manual that normally came with the pistol BUT one that would let you totally teardown and reassemble the complete gun?
I've passed along the basic manual to forum members but one asked me today about the complete gun - I don't know that I've ever heard of such a thing.
If it exists it would make a great sticky.

Thanks

You want to look for what's called an armorer's manual.

I have previously posted my need regarding a TD and reassembly manual (now called an "armorer's manual") for my 52-2. I will now look for the armorer's manual. Thanks, RGN

Not sure one exists for the M-52 but you may have luck finding one for the 9mm M-39 as they are quite similar and I know that many LE agencies carried this gun in the 80's and 90's. If all else fails study the exploded diagram in the gun's instruction sheet or the one on Gunparts web site. Have you tried Google "how to disassemble a S&W M-52 pistol/"Good luck.

I recently have been emailing the S&W customer service people. I now have a direct phone number and extension for a tech who, we hope, will walk me through the take down steps. I have not called yet. I want to have my video cam set up and have plenty of time when I do get a hold of him. S&W will not give out the armorer's manual unless you take a course from them. I'll keep you posted, Please don't ask me for the phone number.

I have also been looking for a complete Gunsmiths / Armorer's Manual for my 52. I contacted Smith and Wesson customer service and was told they do not have them and that I should try Amazon and eBay. Still looking.

Forum member donk52 worked in the Performance Center assembling 41's and 52's. He might be able to shed some light on the availability of such a manual m

I assembled one I bought completely disassembled in a ziplock bag using KidCom's sticky. (See M52 bag-o-gun) Although I was familiar with the model 52, I had never assembled one that was completely disassembled. The biggest help is the order in which you assemble the parts.

There was no manual for the 52's or any other gun while I was there. We were trained, hands on, from the older most experienced fitters. I was one of six trained in 1978 by Randy Traska, who was in charge of a group of guys to assemble the Model 52's. I'm not even sure if there was anyone besides him building them before that. That was a time when S&W semi autos were just beginning to be popular. Compared to revolver fitters, which were numerous at the time, there were less than 20 guys building all the semi autos at the plant. Before I left, 1989, I was training revolver fitters to build the 9mm's. That's when the mini guns, 45's and stainless guns started to be produced.

Although I have the Manual supplied with the gun, it is not what I was looking for either. I "Googled" Amorer's Manual and got a down loadable Model 52 Manual from A&T Deals Guns and Radio Manuals. The download was $8.00 and though it is not a real gunsmithing manual it is a lot more information than what is in the regular manual and worth $8.00 for sure.
