Model 547 moon clips and sn

Does anyone know if a serial number can be traced to requiring moon clips on a 547? Some guns need the clips others don't to fire.

Ive never heard of a 547 needing moonclips. The whole purpose of the 547 was to shoot 9mm without them.

My 4" Square Butt 547 does not use moon clips. The right side of the barrel on all I have seen have the patent number for the special ejector that was used in the 547 to allow it to extract rimless 9mm without moon clips.

All other S & W 9 mm revolvers (like the 940) need moon clips, but not the 547.
