I found a case for her today for 60 bucks. I'm still trying to find the grips.

is there a way to tell if the gun has been refinished?

Your 58 does not appear refinished, but some signs are:

Blurry or removed stampings
Rounded edges that should be sharp/square
Pitting/damage under the finish
Non-case colored hammer/trigger (matching the refinish)
Stocks or mechanicals worn much more than the metal

A true expert refinishing cannot be easily detected, however.

My nickel 58 is one of the "prettiest" guns I own !
Shooting it with the original magnas brings tears to my eyes though !
