Model 58 EFFECTOR 41 Magnum with Hurst Stocks

Hi Scott,
That's an awesome revolver with handsome stocks! For comparison here are
f7f850820dd7536cd7b790af1a517781.jpg
two pair of Hurst's and two pair of Del Rey. K square and J round. Checkering not as fine on the J Del Reys. Bought both of the Del Reys from a retired East Texas sheriff. The Hursts from two different forum members. Don't know what camp I fall into about whether Hurst made the Del Reys, but I know I like all of them. Hursts on blue guns, Del Reys on stainless.

Tim,

Thanks for posting those. I have a ready home for those J frame Del Rey's :D

One of our esteemed members ID'd the stocks as Hurst, we will both be at the symposium with that EFFECTOR and we will let the SWCA Braintrust examine and render a verdict. See you there!

How about this one?

This is not my gun, but a picture that I saved from somewhere.....If I could recall, I could give credit, but alas....one too many memory cells gone....

And this one.....started life as a 58, and is now 58-29....

This one is mine ;)

Dear goodness... your snubby .41 with shaved hammer is a thing of dreams! I'm imagining it blued with RB magnas and a bronze Tgrip... mmmmm

Thank you for more examples.

Agree to the .22 Kit Gun stocks being Hogue.
edit - Before a clam squirts lemon juice in my ear ... the inletting islands are a signature of Hogue.

(Not counting the plastic Hogue copy by Rogers ....)

Don't know who made the J frames Tim showed but sure wish one of our stock makers would start producing them.
There would be a very large market for them.

Ugh... always wish they made a 3" round butt 41 magnum with fixed sights. This is pretty dang close.
You can always have one made. This one doesn't have fixed sights but it's a 3" RB .41mag M28-2 built by Mark Hartshorne using an M58 barrel and 357PD titanium cylinder. Great handling and shooting gun.

Here it is dressed up. This is how I carry it today, the Pachmayrs were for the first range sessions only. It is wearing Eagle Secret Service Stocks - they fit amazingly well given there was no standard N frame round butt profile at the time it was made. These are a bear if you shoot full-house magnums, but are relatively tame with my home brew 44 Special 240gr @ 1100 fps.

This is how it came to me.....poorly fitted K frame Magnas and a Tyler T-grip adapter (it is black and doesn't jump out of the photo, but it is there).....they had to go asap....

Here's my home brewed 44-41. Found a bbl on this forum for sale. Seller had a 58 bbl bored out and rifled to 44 specs. several yrs later a 44 mag cyl showed up here. Had some minor pitting on one side where it had laid in a pres case. Cleaned that up, cold blue, and it dropped right in. I remember after installing the 44 cylinder and before switching barrels, I put a DO NOT SHOOT tag on it. Semi bobbed the hammer and added lime green paint on front sight. She is a hand full with mags. Like, Scott I shoot a 240g at 1100 fps, and it is spot on.

I've got my eye on a 58 right now that's gorgeous with honest holster wear, probably a police gun because the backstrap is all marred. Perfect candidate to turn it into a round butt.

Range day!

Fianlly got around to shooting this one. Shot as expected. Rounds were my reloads. The checkering from the Hurst stocks is now permanently pressed into my hands :p The stocks feel like they were made for me, but they are no fun for 50 or more full-house rounds.

What a great way to spend a Friday :D
