Just handled my first Model 59 today at a LGS and fell in love with it. It was a nickel finished model.
Looking for advice on the model 59 and its variants (5906, 459, etc). Although I was first drawn by the beautiful "shiny" finish, I started reading about all of the variants, all steel, stainless, blued, aluminum, fixed sights, adjustables, etc.
I'm looking for a shooter, but like the idea of the lighter aluminum as a carry. I have a number of Browning Hi-Powers, including the aluminum version and it is noticeably lighter and suitable for carry.
So, any suggestions on which variant I should pursue?
Variants to avoid?
Are parts readily available for all variants?
Are magazines available?
It appears that there is a double-action only version, but not sure which model(s) that is.??? I do not want a double-action only.
Anyway, thanks for any information you can provide.

I like the additional heft of the 5906. It's an all stainless gun but the recoil is mellow. This particular gun has a Briley Bushing with very precise barrel fit for improved accuracy. If you can, shoot the alloy vs steel frame guns before you buy. You may not mind the weight difference as much as you think after firing the guns.

The 5903 is the lighter version of the 5906, which I highly recommend. They can be had with either fixed or adjustable sights. I doubt you would like the DAO version.

my mod 59 has been a longtime favorite. runs great every time. Got a SD9VE a year ago or so to carry and liked it. added apex trigger kit and it got alot better. added Truglo TFO sights and it is better than guns that cost alot more than I have in it..At the range It has been getting more attention than my Sig 9mm and Colt 45 80series. For a DAO the SD9 groups very tight with the Apex trigger kit..Love to shoot it and very easy to carry
