Hi,

Where can I find a "dash history" of m60's? My dealer has a M60 2inch for $300, and I am going to check it out. I'd like to know the history, and what I am getting based on the -dash number.

Thanks

Maybe someone has the time to type this all out. I own a model 60-15 so there at least fifteen changes or variations. Best bet is to invest in a Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson (SCSW). If you can find out the dash number of the model you are looking at it and post it, it would narrow the information that you are looking for.

As long as it doesn't have a internal lock and doesn't look like it was drug behind a truck you go ahead and buy it!
We'll figure the dash number after you get it home.
Good luck!
It won't last long at that price.

I just got a model 60 Pro Series 3" barrel. It also says 60-15. I gotta says after shooting it today with such a small grip and short barrel the .357 mag loads were insane. The gun is pretty light too. I love this thing and it is so easy to conceal but shooting the .38 spc seems a little more practical out of this one.

ANY nice Mod. 60 at that price is a "buy." Here is a picture of a Mod 60 no-dash "transitional" gun.

When were the 60-1's made, I recently put a 4 inch on layaway for 400. I'll be looking for originalgrips when I bring it home, it has black hogues on it now, which aren't bad, but I like the look of wood with stainless?

The 60-1 was a special run with target sights and a 2" barrel in 1985 (I think). Also, I don't think there has been a 4" model 60. Are you sure of the stamping?

I was wrong, its a 66-1, which they think was made in the 90's, I think its older

If it's a 66-1, I'd think it would be made before the 90s. I don't have a catalog, so don't quote me on that. Give Smith a call and they can tell you. If you picked up a 66-1 for $300, you did good my friend.

Scha,

Thanks much for the info. Turns out it was a no-dash, made in 1974. After checking it out, she looked good, so I snatched it up!

Next time, I will look first then ask!

Thanks

My stainless 60-4 has 3" barrel and target sights and was made in the early 80's. Isn't there a sticky showing the ages of these beautiful revolvers?

Do you happen to know on the 60-7 what the "new heat treatment" is? Thanks

A LGS had 3 60's for sale (60 no dash, 60-4 & 60-7) for 500 Aussie dollars each ($380US) so i grabbed the 60-7, no box or papers etc but in mint cond & no hint of turn line! He also said he had a nice Model 10 dash? RB with 3in barrel for 375 Aussie dollars so i grabbed it too & you can't tell it's been fired...not a mark on it & lovely deep bluing. Licence getting done now (takes 8 weeks over here) so should have them home in another week then will post pics!
