Hi All,
I am looking at a 629-6 stamped "CFD7XXX" on the left frame above the trigger. When looking inside the crane the same CFD7XXX marking is there above the 629-6 mark. My Standard Catalog does not cover these later models. Can anyone help with the meaning of this marking. Does anyone know what agency this could be?
This is a 3" model with finger groove wooden grips and an unfluted cylinder.

Thanks very much!

629-6 started 2001. the CFD puts it Feb-May 2002. As there are other details that would put it to a specific model,a pic would be required.

Oh, then it would be normal to also put the serial number on the frame as pictured? I was thinking (incorrectly?) the CFD indicated some agency usage.

No,an overall picture.
the CFD7XXX is consistent with S/Ns'. there seems to be variations with sights and other stuff to pinpoint a specific model code.

everything points to a 'trail boss' product code 163409. hopefully others will post in to verify/contradict.

what grips came on it from S&W plays a role on its' model/product code.

Ahh okay, thanks very much for the prompt help. But it's normal for the serial numbering to be in that location above the trigger?

I saw it mostly on revolvers on which the grips covered the serial number on the bottom of the grip frame. It was unpopular with consumers, and they deleted it. One of the few instances were current management listened to customers recently.
