Picked up a new 629 5 inch barrel pistol today.

My last info regarding changes to the 629 ends at 629-6. Does anyone have any info regarding what the -7 and -8 changed or improved?

The 3rd Edition of the S&W Standard Catalog (Page 257) shows:

629-7 New Two piece barrel in 2005
629-8 Slabside Barrel 2006

However, my 629 does not have the slabside barrel, so I believe the change must be attributed to the frame, irrespective of what barrel is installed.

It could have also been a transition gun as S&W used the last of the standard 2 piece barrels but marked the frame was already marked as a 629-8.

A little late, but here they be -

no pics = no gun

29-10 6.5" Nickle
629-8 5" Satin Stainless
629-8 3" Deluxe TALO Edition

Nice guns, you know the bad part about a nickle gun issssss, if you nick it - it is there forever. Stainless I can work it out most of the time. Enjoy your guns, they will last many life times.

Sorry to resurrect this thread but Im in the same boat as the OP.
I have the same 4 inch 629-8 and I'm still trying to figure out what the change was for -8. Things seem to get fuzzy after -4.
My copy of the Standard Catalog is inbound

Thanks for any help!
