Howdy guys. I picked up a nice little 64-2 last night for $450.00. The detention that holds that holds the extractor rod doesn't look right to me. Do you think this was a smith and Wesson job? Or some shade tree gunsmith work? Also the serial number on the crane matches the serial number on the left side frame of the grip. But it doesn't match the serial number on the bottom grip where most smiths are serialized. Is that usual for the model 64-2 snubs? Thanks in advance.

For some reason the forum won't let post more pics. Sorry.

It has the nominal 2" barrel. 1 7/8" is the normal actual length for the 2" revolvers, whether K or J frame.

I don't think there is anything amiss with the detent. Sometimes they just jut out like that. You might want to check just to make sure it is engaging the end of the rod properly when closed. If so, don't fret over it one bit.

The matching numbers on the yoke and the grip frame are parts tracking numbers used during assembly. They bear no relationship to the serial number. The latter is on the butt, where it belongs.
