A friend recently showed me his Model 64 with a 3" barrel and round butt and said the 3" barrels are somewhat scarce for this model. I don't know whether that is true or not, but it dawned on me that you almost never hear of the Model 64 on this forum. Is there no love for this Smith, or is it just that certain guns always seem to steal the limelight?

The S&W 64 is common at my house

Fixed sight K frames are a addiction. I also have two each S&W 10's and 65's.

Thanks, Taroman, that was some good information! Kind of makes me want to haggle my buddy out of his! Are the 3" barrels somewhat scarce or was that just a "horse and pony" show he was giving me because he had one (it did look like a neat revolver)?

The 3" model 64s are one of the scarcer variants and prices for all 3" guns have exploded of late.

I have the Model 64 Snubby and a 4" 64 and a Model 10 snubby and a 4". But no 3" Yet....
The 2 model 64s are DAO and are fantastic shooters. The 64-6 4" is currently the only Revolver my wife shoots..and she is scary accurate with it.
Her semi auto accumulation is getting out of control though...I may have to reign her in...it is eating into my buying $..:eek::eek:

I only have a pic of the 64-6 snubby...The Op is correct these are invisible..The 4" 64 may be the only gun I own that I never even took a pic of.. it's just a great shooting piece of metal.. not worth a pic but sure worth owning!

The M64 is the unheard of child of Smith and Wesson and unrightfully so. It is a great shooter, good balance, easy to acquire targets with the sights and can handle all 38 Special and spits out +p loads like a champ. I have an older Arkansas Department of Corrections 64-5 and for $345.00 I simply love it.

The model 64 is still made, one of the few K frames they still make

How about a Model 64 with tapered barrel and round butt? This is a 64-5 that I sent to Smith & Wesson to have the used barrel installed. I wish the factory had made this available as a standard item.

Not long ago they were one of the better values to be had in a used Smith & Wesson revolver. Judging by the prices that 64's are currently going for, folks now recognize what great guns they are. This one was $279 only a couple of years ago, now you can't even find a beater for that kind of money...
