Model 65 vs Model 13

I apologize for not reading through the thread before posting but I doubt it will matter since the only question is whether we prefer a 3" 65 or 13.

I prefer my fixed sighted revolvers be blued. The reason is that in our indoor range and in bright sun light glare makes all silver sights harder to see. Of course it depends on the angle to the light source and other conditions.

Two or three months ago a man was finishing the paper work on a nearly new 3" round butt 13 when I walked in the LGS. The original receipt was in the box and the store was including a box of shells that matched the one on the receipt. There were six empties. Yes, I coveted the other customer's gun but since I did not ask what he paid I doubt that it will cost me my soul. He was happy to let me handle it and discuss S&W revolvers.

That made a 13 the more coveted at the place and time. ;)

Interesting details and neat encounter. :)

FWIW, I've had the same problem and painted my sights.

13-3 Nickel 3"

I have a Model 13-3 in 3" Nickel. Very nice gun! Nickel is in nice shape! Orig wood S&W grips. No orig box. It's going to be for sale very shortly....

Here is my 3" Model 65. I've heard somewhere that the DEA were issued them after seeing the FBI and their 3" Model 13's.

Been wanting a 3 inch K frame (29, 66, 13, etc) for quite some time. Around here they are scarcer than hen's teeth. If you do find one, they are tres expensive - out of my reach, unfortunately.

Not a big fan of the 3-inch
65s of which I had two until
a few days ago. So if I had
had a 3-inch Model 13, probably
would have also sold that.

I like higher front sights since
that's what I more or less keep
in full view while shooting. Much
prefer a Models 15/19 or the Models
10/64 with tapered barrels.

I saw this thread resurrected, and since I now can post photos, I could not resist.

Top is my 13-3 3" I purchased in August.

Bottom is my 65-3 3" NYSP
