Welcome to the S&W Forums. Pictures would be great, if you can't post pictures, at least give us more details as to whether it has a pinned barrel and/or recessed chambers. It is not all that uncommon to find S&W revolvers with a model number overstamping, especially during a transition from one revision to a new revision.
There's no difference in the frame between a dash 1 or dash 2.
My guess is they ran out of recessed cylinders and overstamped the dash1 to dash 2 and fit the new non recessed cylinder.
