Is it pinned, recessed or both. Pictures?
Welcome to the S&W Forums. Pictures would be great, if you can't post pictures, at least give us more details as to whether it has a pinned barrel and/or recessed chambers. It is not all that uncommon to find S&W revolvers with a model number overstamping, especially during a transition from one revision to a new revision.
Might be it was a leftover dash 1 that was completed as dash 2, and would have a pinned barrel? Need to see some pictures!

The barrel set pin is irrelevant,
If it has a non recessed cylinder it's a dash 2.
If it has a non recessed cylinder it's a dash 2.

66-1, no, make that a -2!
I had a 66-2 that had the “-1” overstruck with a “2”. Non-recessed cylinder.

There's no difference in the frame between a dash 1 or dash 2.
My guess is they ran out of recessed cylinders and overstamped the dash1 to dash 2 and fit the new non recessed cylinder.

Still sounds like a gun put together during the transition period of 81/82. lWhat’re the the first 4 digits of serial number?
