Ok I have an opportunity to buy a 66-2 4 inch 50 year ATF Smith.The gun itself is in awesome condition except for the stocks,the stocks have several dents and deep scratches in them.The frame and barrel are perfect,the gun locks up tighter than any I have held.The guy at the pawn shop said it was carried a lot but hardly ever shot,I have not had the stocks off,they are smooth with no checkering.Really it looks like the stocks are not correct,the gun is almost 100 percent,the stocks are rather beat up.The presentation box has some issues,it looks like it got wet at one time,it's not in good shape at all but it's all there,the belt buckle is also in the box,it is missing the tools and paperwork.The gun has been priced to me for $800.00.If it was a 3 inch or 2 1/2 I would have already jumped on it.Is this gun worth the asking price or not.It seems that most comemmorative guns really don't have any added value unless someone is really connected to the theme.Any advice here would be appreciated greatly.Thanks in advance.

Any commerative that has been used/fired and has stock, box damage takes a big $$$ hit. Many would offer less than an identical gun that is a regular production model. My top $ on what you describe is $350.
I'd say $400.

Unless some novice/newbie/sight-impaired person comes along and buys it, it will sit there collecting dust for years to come at $800.

Well,I didn't get any response from anyone before I had to make a decision,so I got it anyway.How can a 66-2 4 inch in very,very tight nice condition be worth only 400.00?Anyway I traded a 10-6 nickel and a rossi 851 .38 even for it.Maybe I got burned on it,so what,if nothing else I will have an inch cut off the barrel and use the **** out of it.I think I will.Yes the model 10 was nice,who cares about the rossi.I think I would definately rather have this gun as to both of what I traded.I just don't understand how having an extra rollmark makes it worth half the value of a same model gun without it.Oh well,lesson learned I guess.Anyway here is a pic of it before I start cleaning on it.I am happy with it and if any of you have comemmerative models in magnum calibers you want to let go for 350.00 as suggested in above posts,send me pm's with pictures and I will buy them all,provided they are in as good of shape mechanically and visually as this one.

I'd like to increase my evaluation to $500. That is a nice gun, except for the beat-up grips, but they can be fixed by someone who knows what they are doing.
The added commemorative roll-marks do not add or detract from the value. The display case sounds like it is in bad shape, so that has little value. The tool bag is opened and missing parts. This doesn't mean a thing, but it is not pinned and recessed, so that further decreases the value.
What you has is an excellent mechanical condition shooter grade Model 66-2, and that ain't bad. That should be worth $500 any day.
