Model 66 with 2.75 inch barrel is being introduced

I would love a 2.5" or 3" version myself, I don't care for middle of the road stuff.

With 3" you could have a decent boot grip and still be symmetrical or 2.5" and have one hell of a carry piece with a very small grip that meets up flush with the bottom of the grip frame.

My guess is that they wanted to make a revolver with the shortest barrel and the full length ejector rod they could for the purpose carrying.

Sec Six holster

I was thinking the same thing as I read the first part of this thread. The old Security Six series were very rugged revolvers and fit my hand as well as a k-frame Smith. Around these parts (central Kalifornia) they fetch new-gun prices.

The one holster made for the 2.75" Ruger was the Bianchi 5b/5bh series in a size listed as S6. Very hard to find. Now we will have another series of revolvers soaking up the small supply of S6's.

I have a Safariland holster marked 18 that fits my 2.75" speed six.

I have been looking at a short barreled 460mag for protection against scrub bulls whilst mustering cattle but i think i will now wait for a 2.75in Model 69 to hit Australian shores!

I didn't read all of the above posts, so if redundant, I'm sorry.

Questions about full ejection of .44 mag cases keep coming up.

I just measured my 4 1/4" M69

From face of cyl to tip of ejector rod: 2.0"
From face of cyl to end of ejector lug: 2.5"

With a 2.75" barrel, that would leave approx .25" of barrel beyond the end of the ejector lug.

So, depending on how S&W executes the 2.75" barrel, you should get full ejection of the fired brass.

Measurements for the 66-8 (357 Mag), also to be offered with the 2.75" barrel, are the same as the M69.

FWIW,

Paul

I would buy a 2.75" 66 for sure! I wonder if the fixed sight models 64 and 65 would follow if the 66 and 69 are popular and achieve the sales goals that Smith might have for them?

The 2 3/4 inch barrel model 69 has just moved to the top of my wish list. It will fill the gap between my 2 1/2 inch barrel 329 Nightguard and my 4 inch barrel 629 Mountain Gun. I would greatly prefer it if it is no lock. I am also not a fan of the black cylinder release, trigger, and hammer but I suppose I could replace those if I had to.

I already have Smith's chambered for 357 with 2 1/2 and 3 inch barrels so I'll probably pass on the new 66.

I can understand why they went with 2 3/4 inch. If S&W had gone with a 3 inch barrel then half the people interested in short barrels would say they will wait for a 2 1/2 inch barrel version and viceversa. At 2 3/4 inches, both camps will probably be satisfied to be only 1/4 inch off.

It will have black controls for sure. I can almost deal with the lock. But black hammer, cylinder, and trigger are a deal breaker for me. I hate 2 tone guns. For me, a big part of firearm ownership is pride
In weapon and a two tone ain't cutting it.

Can you get one outfitted for moons?

They might do a PC version that would likely be cut for moons like the 586/686+ PC and others

I ordered the M66 today...

My LGS tried to order both the 66 and 69 and apparently it just gets you on a list. Lipsyes told the lgs S&W isnt taking the orders until next year.

Finally a photo

and it does have a black cylinder release.
