Model 66 with 2.75 inch barrel is being introduced

Thank you Smith & Wesson for listening ! I have a 4.25 " 66-8 that I enjoy shooting the 2 3/4" would be a nice carry revolver. Something more to add to the list. I'm also glad they included the 69 also. Revolvers aren't dead yet.

One of those will be the first new S&W revolver I've bought since my Model 337 ti. Now to track one down when they come out. I think one of these could easily be an EDC piece, especially on a walk in the woods, etc.

I will probably have to have one. I wish they would also make an airweight version but I'll take an all steel one.

A S&W rep told us to our face that we would never see another S&W revolver with an exposed hammer without a lock. He said it would be a legal nightmare to remove a "safety device" once it was introduced into production. This was 2 years ago at the dealers meet in Columbia, S.C. at the fairgrounds.

The S&W rep's prophecy did not happen to Ruger.

Ruger dropped the internal lock from the LCR and SA revolvers and nobody even noticed.

A 2.75" barrel K-frame would be very similar to the old Ruger Speed Six.

I was thinking the same thing as I read the first part of this thread. The old Security Six series were very rugged revolvers and fit my hand as well as a k-frame Smith. Around these parts (central Kalifornia) they fetch new-gun prices.

The one holster made for the 2.75" Ruger was the Bianchi 5b/5bh series in a size listed as S6. Very hard to find. Now we will have another series of revolvers soaking up the small supply of S6's.

Perhaps.
But maybe we will also see new holsters made that will fit both guns?

My favorite holster for my Model 66 snub is my Milt Sparks Versa Max 2, so comfortable I can wear it all day and barely notice my revolver. I imagine they could make one for a Ruger too.

I've been hoping S&W would come out with a shorter barreled version of the 66 and the 69. I have an old 66-3 with a 3" barrel, but I don't want to carry it for fear of it getting used and losing it to the evidence bin. A 2 3/4" barrel will work for me in both the .357 mag. and the .44 mag.

Then the question is:

a. Is S&W introducing it as a part of their Classic line?

b. Is this a special order by Lipsey's of a given number which will end once the last of the order is sold by Lipsey?

1) Look's like a regular factory gun (since a 2.75" inch barrel 66 was never a standard length, it makes sense that it would not be in the Classic Series).

2) My LGS owner told me all his distributors have a item number for it, so it will not be just a Lipsey's exclusive.

I preordered one today!

That's 2 questions. lol

Yeah it just sounds like an excuse to me as well. Lock and 2 piece barrel are a deal breaker for me

I love the barrel length, between an older 2.5" K frame and a 3" K frame. Well done Smith...
