More Hollywood stupidity

I dunno, a lot of people think they are wise and all knowing. We have Hollywood actors advising us on who to vote for congress, president etc., giving advise on the weather and climate change, modern farming techniques, marine biology, conservation, ecology and every other subject under the sun. Right now some of the Hollywood types are advising us on crime control and the meaning of the second amendment. People listen to what they have to say.

What I don't get is that Tom Selleck is involved with that show and I thought he would be one to give an honest representation of firearms.

hmph reminds me of an old clint eastwood saying from the 4th dirty harry film. opinions are like..............

and to think that the actors and politicians of that state that has the most problems probably in the entire nation bar none (partly because of how overpopulated it is, some huge number of people per square mile) feels it has the right to tell us how to feel about everything under the sun even if they know nothing about it.

and havent even tried it for real.

hmph talk about blissful arrogance, I pitty the good people who live there who are stuck dealing with all of that BS coming out of there.

from guns, to cars, to even plastic model making when it comes to basic spray paints (cant get certain paints anymore because of the CO2 it puts out, Steve Neil mentioned it on his modeling blog) they overregulate and overcontrol everything in that state and it never solves anything.

and never has I think, I dont think a single law passed there to deal with there extreme problems has ever put an end to the problems they have there.

makes MA with that idiot in boston seem like a paradise in comparison, and that's saying something.

Unfortunately, it is Hollywood's stature and visability, that puts "the thoughts of Middle America" on the back burner.( `````````secondary & ignored)

So the wife's watching a DVR'd copy of Bluebloods tonight. In the span of 15 minutes I hear/see:

1. A woman sitting in a limo shot and killed. She's shot through the side window, yet the entry's dead front on.

and my favorite

2. The shell casings are 10mm they find, one character says those are rare, then the other mental midget/character says "except in gang shootings, they use them."

Hollywood is to stupid to breath and I need an Tums to watch those Wahlberg smucks. They make their living playing character's with guns, yet they oppose them every time they can.

Maybe it's just me.....

No, it's NOT just you, trust me. I see that sort of garbage ALL the time. Every time somebody takes a Glock out of their holster, you can hear them cocking the hammer. Every. Single. Time.

"Blue Bloods" is a must watch show for me. The stories and acting are very good. No doubt that one will find technical fault with any show if one looks hard enough. It sure beats the acting and technical details of decades gone past. Sometimes I will notice the errors and mention it to my wife, but I don't let it become the focus of my attention.

The problem I have with Blue Bloods (and i like the show) is there is NO WAY a Harvard Law grad is a NYC cop walking the beat. If he wanted to be in LE, he'd be in a federal agency, and there is ALSO NO WAY that the son of the police commisioner (and grandson of a former police commissioner) is doing uniform patrol. MAYBE for 6 months to complete your training, but after that, HELLO AVIATION! (or Harbor, or some other impossible to get into unit).

In the early episodes, Wahlberg carried a 5946. Then it was a Glock. Now a Kahr. You can't change your gun like you do your socks. You're stuck with what you chose in the academy until you retire.

I actually have a copy of a book written to advise screenwriters and authors what guns are appropriate for what time frames and how they function, Apparently not many of them read them....My beef with the way Whorelywood portrays guns is the false impressions on those who don't understand guns and really think that you can fire an AR-15 or an AK for 5 minutes straight without reloading.

My wife lives on that carp. I don't watch any of it. I literally can not. Generally if it has a cop, lawyer or a doctor in it I stay away.

I can agree with many of the observations made here so far and would offer one more.

I cannot have much respect for any profession that makes its living by having people be something they are not. The many actors abound that cannot make a livi g other than pretending is just amazing to me. The other source of amazement is the people who fawn over these people like they know what they are talking about in th real world.

There are some scenes in movies that make you shake your head in wonder...like in "Mr. Brooks" for example, where Kevin Costner uses a plastic bag zip tied to his wrist so it can catch the ejected shell casings. Looks to me like the bag would be shredded with the gases from the first shot.

Or the scene in "Striking Distance" where Bruce Willis is going to swim underwater with a shotgun to sneak aboard a ship. He takes the shells out of the shotgun's magazine, puts them in his mouth (with the brass ends of the shells protruding from his mouth), and swims underwater to the ship. Once he gets on board, he reloads the shotgun, and then fires it. Now, I suppose the intent of putting the shells in his mouth was to protect the paper hulls from getting wet...but "Striking Distance" was made in 1993, and paper hulls had largely been replaced with plastic hulls by 1980.

The one that I got a kick out of this past week was on "Hawaii Five-0." If I remember correctly, it went something like this....
Medical Examiner: (after removing bullets from dead victims) "They are 7.56 millimeter slugs, 30 caliber. They're only used by the Chinese."

McGarret: "Hmmm. We might be looking at a Chinese government terrorist attack."

Those aren't the exact words, but that was the gist of it. Oh well, as they say in Hollywood, "That's entertainment!":D

I'm surprised about this happening on Blue Bloods, they've been fairly good in the past. I know Selleck is a gun guy and would think he'd know better.

As much as I like Tom Selleck, he's an ACTOR. Just like John Wayne did, he makes his living pretending to be something he's not. I can only imagine how hard it is for live up to the image of the people they pretend to be.

That's the wonderful thing about TV. It doesn't have to be factual or politically correct. People watch TV to relax and be entertained. Sensationalism sells.

Us gun guys see mistakes. I'm sure real cops and attorneys see mistakes too. But if you keep everything in perspective, you realize that it's just TV. Nothing to get exited over if every little detail is not correct.

Mr Selleck is a great actor and well respected. He doesn't act like something he's not off screen. And if you've ever bothered to notice, many of the shows that Selleck produces and acts in, the gun handling is much better.

Blue Bloods is the only tv that I watch regularly. The show is highly regarded for it's high moral content and for standing up for what's right. That's why I watch it. Not the gun handling.

What I find amazing is to have this in the script with an NRA Board member in a staring role on the program. Come on Selleck get off your dead *** and tell it like it should be.

Dude, take a deep breath, maybe a chill pill or two and think to yourself,
It's just entertainment, it's NOT meant to be taken seriously. If you want serious TV, watch PBS!!!

There are way to many that take this junk on TV seriously. Remember, they make this stuff to be dramatic, not realistic!!!!

P.S. Even the so called "reality" shows shouldn't be taken seriously!

My favorite was in last night's episode of Grimm on NBC. They made a reference to recovering a .600 nitro express bullet from a person's body. Like that's gonna happen....

If the person is a pachyderm.....

Oxygen thieves is all the Hollyweird freaks are! I can barely stomach pop movies & tv anymore.

Old thread so I didn't read all the replies but on the number of rounds subject. I agree 99% of all tv/movie entertainment shows unrealistic shots from revolvers/autos.

I will say though and it really stuck out in my mind that when I watched "From Dusk to Dawn" I was truly amazed to see them actually make Clooney reload his revolver. He actually was taking cartridges out of his pocket and loading, and this happened numerous times!!!!

In my opinion it actually added to the tenseness of the movie. Now I won't comment on the other effects but they at least got something right....
