Guys what all calibers were the mountain guns made in, I have the model 25 and the model 57, I know they may not be as collectable as others, but I like em and would like to get em all. And which of the ones other than the 2 I have were offered in a blue finish, thanks

.44 Magnum, .41 Magnum, .357 Magnum, .45 Long Colt, .45 ACP. The .357 is an L-Frame.
629 44 Magnum.
Mine are SS in 357/44mag/45acp/45LC....& I reckon .44 spl if you want count the 4" 624.........I skipped on buying the .41 since I have no interest in that caliber.

There were definately Model 29 Mountain guns, all were blue finish.
There have been some threads on MG's in the past where we discussed which features were common on All factory made Mountain Guns .....
IIRC the common features are 4" tapered barrel with shrouded ejector rod, smooth combat trigger, semi target hammer, RB grip frame, target sites , blue Baughman FS blade and says Mountain Gun on the barrel.
the rest come and go on different versions but the litmus test of what makes a S&W "Mountain Gun" is if it says it on the barrel .
For instance the 629-2 "Mountain Revolver" while the grandaddy to all "Mountain Guns" has the common features plus some others but does not say "Mountain Gun" on the barrel so IMO is not a "Mountain gun" .
The 624 is not a Mountain gun, neither is the Model 24 or the Model 27.

The 629-2 says "MOUNTAIN" under Features on the box label, that's what makes it a Mountain Gun even though it isn't printed on the barrel.

I suppose its a matter of nomenclature but while having "Mountain Gun" features the 629-2 pre dates the Mountain Gun and according to S&W is actually called a "Mountain Revolver" ..... not the same name as "Mountain Gun" but almost ...IMO kinda like being "Almost pregnant"...

I owned this 686-5 seven shooter for about 8 years. Real nice revolver.

The Model 686-5 Mountain Gun is unique in that is the only L frame, only 7 shot and only version in a caliber that doesnt begin with the number "4",
also since the 686-5 was the first L frame M.G. and had the new frame mounted firing pin, smooth tangs and MIM internals ,
no L frame version exists with forged internals, a hammer mounted firing pin and serrated tangs ....
