I took a course in Mammalogy in grad school. One of our field trips was a weekend of small mammal trapping. The standard bait is peanut butter, oats and a little sugar. If you use 1/4 baking soda, it makes an effective poison for mice and rats.

LV Steve: Too bad. The solpugids (sun spiders) will keep down the scorpions and mice and the scorpions will keep eat the mice.

So what does examining woman's breasts have to do with this thread????
As far as scorpions eating mice....I'd pay to watch that!!!

I've got two small dogs and I don't want them hurt. I get small cardboard boxes at WM about 8x8x6 for 58 cents each. Fold the bottom shut, use a hole saw to make 1" holes in all four sides, put 3 victors (tomcat with Swiss cheese looking actuator work best) with PB in the box and fold the lid shut. Put box in a corner an inch away from the wall.

I recently bought a box of Winchester White Box in .44 Magnum. On the box, it states it is suitable for deer & black bear. Perhaps this load would also be appropriate for mice?

Had a rat.......

Tried all of the 'humane' traps. Then I put out Victors, then I resorted to poison. Came in one night and he was cacked on the living room floor. Didn't make me feel good, but no more rat. They are too smart.

I once found a coworker tormenting a mouse that had been caught on a sticky trap. He thought it was hilarious to torture the poor thing - cutting off legs, tail, etc. I took it away from him, turned the trap over, and dispatched the tormented creature with a stomp. Never saw that guy in the same light again. Anyone who will intentionally torture a living creature is not to be trusted. I also dislike sticky traps for the same reason. When I have to trap a mouse I want one of the old fashioned traps that break its neck.

One time where I worked we had about 2 ft of snow and we got a heavy rain storm, the whole area was flooded, we had rats in the building the called in someone to get rid of them, he put down big sheets of that sticky paper, the next morning when we came in there were small pieces of paper with fur stuck to it but no rats, it looked like they ate the sticky paper, I made up some traps like have a heart, got rid of those little buggers in a few days.

Where's Caj? I finally uploaded this photo, no quite as exciting as catching two bass at a time but this is the kinda trap you need. It will only take half as long to get rid of them.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

Mouse invasion

Last Friday we were invaded in our kitchen. It's happened before so we are ready. They crawl into the top drawers in the counter next to the dishwasher. We set a Victor(s) with peanut butter at back of drawer. We had a whacking good time for about 24 hours.

We caught 7. I put on a pair of strong work gloves, carry trap/mouse out on the deck, wring neck as necessary, toss the bodies in the woods and reset trap. After the seventh one died we seem to have temporarily stemmed the attack.

I was raised a farmboy and have no problem killing vermin and pests.

I tried D-Con in my work shop but they crawl off somewhere and stink the shop up.

i have 2 semi wild cats.
i also hae fig trees.
it's possible to lose 90% of a crop to vermin
because figs taste like candy, so they come night after night.
i lost no figs at all.

the total value of figs saved is well in excess of the cost of kibble n litter.
