Movies that scare ya. I mean really SCARE you to the core?

I don't watch 'horror' movies, finding them not at all entertaining, so I haven't see a movie of that genre lately.

The last movie that truly scared me was the first 'Alien' movie. it was a masterpiece. You never really saw the alien until the very end. It was a GOOD movie, directed by the extremely talented Ridley Scott.

The most amazing thing about 'Alien' was that the sequel 'Aliens' was arguably better, but not really too scary. More action oriented. It made the cover of Time magazine, and that is saying something, I think.

The first one was a Gothic horror story set in space and the second was a wild west shoot-em-up.

I turn 65 next month. My wife and some of her friends love horror movies (maybe "gorror movie" is more correct). She and several of these friends majored in English and several are published authors. Together they form one of the local writing clubs. I "asked" (challenged them?) to each write me a Gothic "horror" story for my birthday in their favorite genre. One will be sci-fi soft porn, one will be a Civil War story, one will be a Startrek novel/novella. This is based on what these women like to write. My wife writes poetry and has promised me something along the lines of Poe's "Ligeia". I'll let you know how they turn out.

I'm with Snubby on this one. I went into the theater a 13 year old lad with plans to be a paleontologist, and came out with one thought: I need a job where I can have a gun ALL THE TIME. And the die was cast.......

The three amigos in happier pre-hillbilly times:

the original House on Haunted Hill with Vincent Price.
The basement scene where the Girl goes into the closet and turns around to see that creepy old woman about a foot away from Her.
I have seen that Movie about a hundred times and I know what is going to happen and when it will happen but it still makes Me jump. As a Kid I was really afraid to go in Our basement at night because of that Movie.

Not a horror movie per se but I once saw a movie on a tour bus going to Yellowstone and it was about the caldera under Yellowstone exploding and what happens to the world. Based on fact and it scared the crappe out of me. Can't remember the title though.

Oh Thanks reddogge...It's only 60 miles from where I live..Nightmare tonight!!

Ah The Fog...Nice rememberance there gun club fan. It was a little bit spooky too.

The Haunting of Hill House [the original]. No special effects, really. Just angles, music, and sounds that trigger your own imagination. Scariest movie ever!

The first movie that scared me was Soylent Green. It was my first wake up call about how messed up things could get. Plus I never looked at school cafeteria food the same way. Later in high school a series called Faces of Death came out on video. It was captured video of real deaths. Someone parachuting and landing in gatorville, etc. Those videos still haunt me.

I dont know how anyone would want to see any of those faces of death vids? I remember seeing them on video store shelves but--never looked at one.

At least you're big enough to admit you "like" it.
Thank you.
Sorry about you skipping you're next meal :)

That hurt. :eek::D

However,it didnt hurt long as I went totally blind. :D

Heh heh, when one cant see food--one skips a meal. That wasnt on old Confucious saying either.:D

Anyone remember: Creepshow? The skit with Ted Dansonin it gave me the heebie jeebies. There was another skit tha thad something to do with tons of roaches.....

Any movie with Adrienne Barbeau. Nuf said!

Adrianne Barbeau? She was on the old Maud tv sit-com (a spin off from All In The Family. Her nick name was "Boom-Boom" and, I think, for obvious reasons. :D Her tag line was, "Meet me 'round the corner in 'bout a (and then a brief pause while she threw a hip out) half an hour." Always seemed a little on the sleazy side to me.... And not the most talented actress in the business.

I have not seen a scary movie in quite awhile- the last was when I was 7 - "The Birds". It only got scary the next day when I was mowing the lawn with a lawn sweeper behind it. It was dry, and I created quite a dust and bug storm behind me, which caused large numbers of birds to start flying at me/mower, it seemed like an ever growing number of birds, till I finally stopped, turned off mower and ran in the house. Shortly after that time a cousin got into his fathers ( LE) auto accident photos, that sort of did it for me. After that real life experiences/occupation sort of caused me to become somewhat jaded. When you are looking at someone cut in half by a train lying on the stretcher VS a zombie/freddy/michael/etc, knowing it is a movie does not raise the pulse. Be Safe,

My brother I did rent one. You were wise not to rent it.
I attended a number of autopsy's back in the day. I'd rather attend another one then see another one of those movies.

Let me see if I remember the order:

1) Manhunter

2) Silence of the Lambs
3) Red Dragon

Is that correct?

I saw or read an interview with Scott Glenn, who played Crawford in "Silence of the Lambs". He interviewed the real life profiler on which his part was based. The guy had files he would NOT let him see. All he would say was that there were guys out there (and some have never been captured) who made Hannibal Lecter look like a Boy Scout.

For me, the original, B & W "The Thing" was the scarier, although the second one was truer to the original short story (The original is called "Who Goes There" and is available on line)

As a youngster my B&W tv was guided by my parents ........
but the very first show to scare the begeezus out of me was
the movie, Babes in toy land, staring Laurel and Hardy.
The Boogie man and hairy creatures, did a job on me.

Sure glad they had all those toy soldiers to save the day along
with that cannon full of darts !!

Then later on when old enough to go to the movies, I got to get
to wet my pants with that Bad guy "Ming" in the episodes of.....
"Flash Gordon" with Buster Crab.

After those........nothing phased me !!

Well, maybe........
Jaws or Alien .
