Movies that scare ya. I mean really SCARE you to the core?

Dr. Sanguinary ROCKED!!!!!!!

The host of the local "Creature Feature" on TV when I was a kid was...... "Robin Graves". :)

I am a big fan of the '50s Sci-Fi movies and any of the films produced in the '40s by Val Lewton w/ "The Seventh Victim" being one of the best. He produced the '42 version of "Cat People" and "I Walked with a Zombie". You didn't always have to see the monsters to be frightened.

I'm not easily scared.....

I'm not scared by movies (other things, yes) but I'll have to go along with most people on 'The Exorcist', 'Jaws' and 'The Wizard of Oz" (Margaret Hamilton:eek::eek::eek:)

One thing that affected me though was fighting the skeletons in 'Jason and the Argonauts'.

The most unscary, piece of **** movie was 'The Blair Witch Project'

A couple that got me were The Hills Have Eyes and Steven Kings It.

I'm 53 yrs. old and still scared of clowns.

Those were remarkably creepy and oddly believable. Of course, Ray Harryhausen was a genius at that stuff. I assume the fighting skeletons in one of the Spy Kids movies were CGI so you would think they would be better. Nope, Harryhausen's creations were way more scary.

Carrie was a disturbing movie. I'm not sure what got to me most, the relentless bullying, the loony mother or the dream sequence at the end with the hand coming out of the ground. Strangely, I had no problems with Carrie dropping the hammer on that crowd in the way she did.

The Ring, 30 Days of Night, and the one where John Cusack as a reporter stayed in a hotel room that was supposed to be haunted. The name of it was the room number.

1408 would be the name of the movie with John Cusack. Good movie. I'm huge fan of horror movies and that one along with Rose Red, the exorcist, the conjuring are some of the only ones that have any impact on me.

You know you are hooked in to one of these scary movies when you are screaming at the screen, "Don't open that door! LOL

When I was a kid they had a miniseries on about the Tate/LaBianca murders on TV. I don't know that it was the movie some much as the thought of Charles Manson but I did not sleep with the light off for two years.

Helter Skelter was one movie based on those murders. There were a couple others but HS was the "big hit" of them all.

My late wife called it "The dumb blond moment". She opens the door, the lights won't come on, something is in there making a noise like a T-Rex with a sinus infection and she continues into the room saying, "Billy?"

Absolutely correct, pure psychological horror is the scariest of all. In Cat People you didn't get to see the cat until the very end. My Dad saw it just after he came back from Luzon. Said it scared him more than the Japs did. He did tend to veer close to hyperbole though. :)

The later version with Nastasha Kinski was good in it's own rite. Much more visceral though.

There are lots of movies that claim to be "scary".

Well Jack, you had to ask this question didn't cha. Of all the little gin joints why did you have to pick this one.

Now I'll spend a sleepless night exorcising my mind again.

My 3 kids and I were watching an old home move and my ex floated across the screen. Scary. My kids and I all divorced her. My kids gasped, I screamed and 2 grandkids fainted.

That there was double dog scary.....

Regular movies do not scare me, Drac and ilk pack stray too far from reality. It is annoying to hear adults scream look out it's/he's/she's behind you to a large screen.

My 2nd wife of many years and I worked in St. Louis for about 18 years. We liked to go see where some famous murders happened, go to places listed as haunted and such.

I read that the original Exorcist event happened in St. Louis. Do you want to drive by some night? She said no, heck no and you'd better watch it Buster....

Big Moma's House. that will put the fear in you. remember when a buddy of mine and myself went to see the Exsorsist (can't spell either) and in one scene the guy in front of us screamed and launched both the popcorn and large coke he was holding way up in the air and got the folks behind us. Soon as he screamed a whole bunch of folks did the same. Frank

When I was a young boy I was watching The Haunting on TV. It was late at night, everyone was in bed, and I was alone in the living room watching the movie with all the lights out. It was a creepy movie, but when this scene came on:

This scared me. Lights on, retreated to my bedroom, and spent the rest of the night shaking. I was afraid to turn off the light when I went to bed for a long time. I have never seen the entire movie. Even at my age, it is just too creepy.

I have to be honest here. The movie that scared me the most was one I watched as a little kid. The Wizard of Oz. Most people that have seen the movie don't give it a second thought, but as a kid, those damn FLYING MONKEYS scared the **** out of me. That is why I try to stay on the good side of the big gorilla. I don't want to see HIM fly.

SWCA #1834

When I was a wee lad I had nightmares about those darn flying monkeys.

I agree with "Gaslight." I'm not sure I'd say "scarey" as much as "intense."

I remember seeing one that I think was called "Cyclops" when I was a kid. That one scared me, but I really don't remember why.

The Wizard of Oz also scared the snot out of me as a kid. Not the ever popular flying monkies though. It was those XXXXX talking trees, throwing things and grabbing at people. I'd never seen any monkeys where I lived, riding, walking or flying, but I'd sure seen trees.

Play Misty for Me. My favorite Clint Eastwood movie. Totally out of character for him, but that crazy gal (Jessica Walter) scared me half to death.
