I went to the store and after looking at both the Glock 19 and MP Compact 9mm, I decided to go with the MP Compact because it printed less and was a tiny bit smaller. The but end of the Glock 19 was a bit too big.

However, the MP Compact has a very heavy trigger compared to the Glock 19. I would not modify the MP Compact for CCW but have read someone installed an Apex trigger but had to file the frame! Yikes! Even if I didn't use my MP for CCW, I don't think I would want anybody filing my frame period.

Did you guys look at the Glock 19 before buying the MP Compact? I am thinking maybe I made the wrong decision because magazine articles said the MP was great except the trigger was lousy

nice

you cant really go wrong with either gun.
everyone likes different triggers.
you may warm up to the trigger. if needed you wont notice the heavy trigger.
seems like you got the one you liked better.
my bro has the S&W with trigger work and its dead reliable.
congrats
Mike

I was bored of buying Glock Pistols but do like the fact nobody has ever complained bitterly about Glock's trigger. This is the first time I heard magazine gun editors slam MP Compacts for heavy trigger pulls. But I am sure if I fire it enough at range, I will get used to it. My only other concern is if I reload, does this barrel have full case support?

Apex trigger is a great upgrade and I recommend it for a carry gun. Not sure what this business is about filing a frame, it actually sounds really bizarre. Apex makes quality parts.

I have a G19. I liked it better than the 9c, but it wasn't my intention to carry it. Believe it or not, the trigger was the breaker ( pun intended). Although the ergos are slightly better on the 9c, at least to me.

That said, it was a close race and a tough decision. I'm pretty sure I will add a 9c to the arsenal at some point.

I don't understand the "heavy trigger" statements from everybody about the M&Ps. My one and only M&P is a 9c that has a very light trigger pull, and I consider it much better than the factory triggers on my Glocks. Glocks are ok, but that M&P has a great trigger pull, and it has never had any trigger work or a kit put in it. I bought it new, and I won't alter any of my "carry" guns, other than steel sights on a Glock. Glock triggers are better than XDs, but not by much. I have no problem carrying any of the three brands, but too many people talk about things of which they have no actual experience.

I looked at both and went with the 9c based on how it points. Glocks always come up muzzle high for me. Both are fine weapons.

Doc, there is another thread that speaks about this and it is the link below. I don't think it is that great if you have to file the frame to get a match trigger. Apex said it was due to the slight variance of the frames and why parts of the frame had to be sanded. I don't think I would want my gun sanded period!

Pete, I haven't picked my PM Compact 9mm yet, plan on doing so Monday as IL has a 3 day waiting period. But when I pulled the trigger, it didn't seem too bad but compared to my Glock 34 with a Ultimate Pyramid Match, it is pretty darn heavy and the under and over travel is too much. I would also venture to say the groupings would be only combat accurate with this MP Compact because of the heavy trigger. I do think it is still a fine pistol or else I wouldn't have bought it howver.

I vaaaaaastly prefer the G19. The M&P9c is a fine gun, but the G19 excels in aftermarket, stock trigger, and generally chillness. I'd look into that.

Since I don't own or recommend any pistol with a safety (not counting the shield and it's tiny safety I've never used) that may be the problem... The solution is to don't buy an. M&P with the silly batwing safety, it's not needed.

Check to see if you got a MA/CA compliant M&P with the 10lb trigger. The M&P has a 6.5lb trigger which is only 1 lb more than the Glock.

I do like both brands. Each serves a purpose and fits particular roles and needs better.

I have a 23 and did not think twice about getting a MP compact for concealed carry. The MP compact seems to blend in a bit better due to shorter overall height and it's grip radius. I also carry a 30S with a 9 round magazine and find that piece carries better for me than my 23 does, too. The 23 is pretty much a HD piece for me.

Could the heavy trigger being talked about here be an example of a Mass compliant piece? I understand those triggers are like 10 lbs and that would be very heavy!

I like the 9c trigger better than the 19. The ergos are better too. And as you said, slightly smaller for concealed carry.

It's also available with a safety, if that's something you like.

Well I've fired 15,000 rounds through a glock 19 give or take. I like it just fine. I've fired a few thousand through my M&P 9. I like them both. I feel they are similar with the stock magazines as far as reliability. Problems don't come about until you start playing under the hood.

I carry mine with light and shortened triggers, aftermarket sights and horrors extended magazines. Oh well. I refuse to shoot stock pistols that I don't enjoy for the purpose of practicing for a highly unlikely encounter. If the unlikely happens and I'm carrying a pistol that I enjoy shooting and am proficient with I'm more likely to win. Winning is good.

What I'm saying is factory trigger versus factory trigger......all else being equal, I prefer the M&P 9cs trigger to my factory triggered Glocks.......the M&Ps is just plain better

marathonrunner: Shoot both guns at the same range session and compare side by side. I have a 9c and my son has a G19. Though the M&P fits better in my hand, I just flat out shoot his Glock better. Though the 9c CCs a bit better, I finally decided to buy a G19 and it is my carry gun.

I have a Glock 34 with a Pyramid Ultimate Trigger 2.85 lb trigger pull, a Bar Sto Match Barrel, a Super Heavy Duty Dual Guide Rod, and that would be my home defense gun that is until I heard from everyone you never want to do any mods for a defense gun. I do think the Glock 19 will outshoot the M&P Compact 9mm because of the 1lb lighter trigger pull. But the fact you cannot make the mod without filing the frame, that does not sit with me. Glocks you don't have to file any frame. But I already bought the M&P and will pick it up Monday. I feel comparing that to my Glock 34, I won't like the combat accuracy of the Smith but I do have to admit, the ergonomics of the M&P is way better than the Glock

I own the Glock and I live the gun. Ibhave an M&P 40 and I like that gun. The M&P compact is a gun I would like to shoot at least. A Ruger SR 9c is on next on my short list. Really impressed with the way that gun shoots. The compact is right behind it.

Interested to see how it plays out for you

I have the 9c and really like it, it was my EDC for a while, I have a G17 and really like that, it's easier to shoot than the 9c, BUT, the 9c has the APEX trigger and it is ever so much better than the Glock. My current EDC is an M&P 9 with Surefire X300/u and Trijicon RMR carried in a Sawyer Concealment AIWB holster, it too has had a trigger job and the RMR mounted by ATEi. That gun is simply awesome. Practice, practice, practice with what you have. I think if I did to the G17 as I did to the M&P 9 it would be awesome too. Hmmmm, no, not this month. Well maybe a trigger job.
