My youngest brother was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma Stage II about 9 months ago and has been fighting this dreadful disease for years even before that not knowing what the cause of his pain was ..

He's broken multiple bones and has had numerous compression fractures during this time ..

His medical packet was finally sent today to the Nashville VA Hospital that will be doing the Stem Cell Transplant he needs to have a chance to survive .. They will schedule the procedure in the next few weeks that includes giving him a large dose of chemicals that will kill all of his bone marrow and all of his germ fighting cells .. killing all of his cancer cells also .. Then the stem cells that they will have harvested in advance will be reinjected into him and hopefully they will grow keeping the cancer cells at bay and give him another 5 or more years of life !! Maybe as many as 15 years more .. He is a very young 57years of age !!

He could use a prayer or two during this time over the next weeks and months .. it will take months for him to recover and probably will never recover enough to go back to work ..

That is a heavy load that your brother bears. I pray that God intervenes to lift that burden.

My little brother (58) is currently battling the recurrence of liver cancer so I know your heartache.

There are several forum members who are suffering and I lift them up daily. I believe that's one of the reasons He put us together is to help support one another.

I will certainly pray for him.

Would you be kind enough to tell us the date, when you learn it, that he is to begin the actual procedures so we can pray harder and more specifically for the procedure's success and for his recovery?

Bob

Prayers sent my wife has the same cancer as your brother. She is going to UOM in Ann Arbor Michigan for stem cell treatment. She is in stage 3. she should have this done in early to mid January.

Dear God,

Still my tongue. Replace useless words with silent understanding. Let compassion be my guide as I offer help and healing with only my presence and my prayers.I pray that I will know when to speak and when not to. May my support be felt without uttering a single syllable.

~Amen

He was excited today on the phone .. Its been a long process with many bumps in the road .. but it looks like now the process has been started ..

He has been told it will take 2 to 4 weeks to schedule the different procedures and the room he will be in is basically the same as being in an ICU .. all according to what is scheduled now .. he was told he will be given a couple of dates that he can start and hopes to start everything before Christmas .. He wants to get things moving .. he is in a lot of pain right now and has been force to use his break out pain meds more often now .. he has a broken rib and a compression fracture he is dealing with ..

My sister will be with him in Nashville but won't be able to see him for a few days .. they will train her on doing things that will be needed to be done for him that he will not be in any physical shape to do .. giving him meds and getting him to eat anything he can .. he will live with her in Florida for the next year or longer if necessary ..

Will keep all informed as he is told the starting dates .. All these prayers will mean so much to him !

It hurts to see a loved one suffer .. Multiple Myeloma is sadly a cancer with no cure .. until stem cell transplant became the normal treatment .. life expectancy was very short .. in the order of just months by the time it was diagnosed .. Still with the use of the stem cell life expectancy is still measured in a number of years counted on one hand ..

One of my co workers had this about 16 years ago. He underwent the stem cell treatment when it was new. He had to endure it twice within a 6 month period. Today, he has shown no sign of the disease for 7 or 8 years.

My brother was diagnosed with it almost two years ago, and had the stem cell transplant in July 2016. It was very hard on him and he said he would never do it again. His recovery has been slow, but he went back to work in about four months after the treatment. He has to take maintenance drugs, but is continuing to get stronger. He has not recovered his golf game yet, but it is improving.

The treatment seems to be complex and brutal, but there is hope!
