Multiple Secret Service Agents Placed on Leave
It's part of the fallout from the investigation into the Trump assassination attempt

Multiple Secret Service Agents Placed on Leave

The Secret Service has placed multiple agents on leave as it investigates the assassination attempt on Donald Trump last month in Butler, Pennsylvania, reports CBS News. Those placed on leave include the head of the agency's Pittsburgh field office, which was responsible for planning and coordinating security, per NBC News. Meanwhile, agents assigned to Trump's day-to-day protection remain on the job, notes Real Clear Politics, which assesses: "The differing treatment of the two teams is spurring internal dissension and speculation that the Pittsburgh office could bear the brunt of the serious security failures that day, even though there's plenty of blame to go around."

The question is a how a 20-year-old gunman was able to position himself on a nearby roof and begin firing shots that hit the former president's ear and killed one attendee, per CNN. In police bodycam video that emerged after the shooting, one officer is heard saying he had warned the Secret Service that someone should have been positioned on the roof used by the gunman. (The head of the agency resigned after being grilled by Congress.)

Well the simple answer is "There is something rotten in Denmark" William Shakespeare

For events that qualified for SS protection, I thought they had a dedicated advance team that did the sight assessments with help from local LEO's and the local SS office. Maybe candidates and former POTUS events weren't handled the same way. Perhaps the preplanning for non-POTUS events are handled by local offices only or perhaps that is what happened due to the shortage of qualified planners.

It doesn’t require a trained and experienced SS planner to take a 30 second look around an event site to discover that there is an obvious building with a big roof 150 yards away that would make a great perch for a sniper. Any 20-YO kid could do that. And did.

It's plain to see someone dropped the ball. I wonder if it was on purpose??? Rotten in Denmark?, of course.

So, the agents were in Denmark and never saw Butler until the day they arrived on site? But certainly someone in the Fargo office didn't do his/her job. Call the agent in charge in Honolulu
and get the answers. Certainly something is fishy in New Orleans as well.

Yeah, and he knew he could get on it and it would be unguarded. He just knew.

I read a week or do back that Burden approved SS protection for the former head of the agency. Another article said she was on Burden's detail when he was VP and his wife got really close to the agent, it made it sound like Jill was responsible for being hired as the head of the agency.

If that is true, what a mess.

I wonder if the agents placed on leave are paid or unpaid. Larry

They are on Administrative leave. They are on full pay and benefits but taken off field duty pending the completion of the investigation. If they are found at fault then disciplinary action can be taken.

This is the normal procedure for any LEO involved in a questionable situation with potential social or political problems. Here in Virginia for example, any officer involved in a suspect being shot or injured is placed on administrative leave while the incident is under investigation by higher authority, usually Virginia State Police. I’m sure this is true for most jurisdictions.
