My 21-4

Recently found this 21-4, 44 Special without the ugly(IMO) Thunder Ranch logo,at least 95%. Came with the stag grips and I picked up a nice pair of original style grips from a member here(thanks BobbyD!!). Kinda like the "retro" look and look forward to getting it to the range. What do you think?

I especially like that non-factory front sight. I might have gone with a serrated ramp of a shape similar to the Model 10, but that semi-circle front sight that came on those guns did not fit the sight base, and it just looked, well - silly. Yours looks far better. Good show!

Now, the bigger problem is finding a second job to be able to afford 44 Special ammo!

I have owned three 21-4s and still have one of them. My front sight was too tall making the gun shoot low. I think S&w would change it since some of them came from factory that way. I was not the original owner so I chose to slowly file it down myself to get the POI where I wanted it. Nice guns with nice trigger and bluing and fit.

Hi Shawn, I've seen 2 different front blades on 21-4s: a 'half-dime' and a 'half-nickel.' The half-dime does look odd while the half-nickel style seems almost traditional. Darn that RB, though.

My 21-4 is a factory nickel with what, to me is an odd serial #:
DCL000x. Can anyone out there offer some clarification on this serial? Appreciate.

Good catch on the sight. I almost backed off on buying this piece when I realized the sight was not original and was concerned about resale value effect. Glad I went forward with purchase.

WOW! With the big Patridge front sight and the stags......great looking 21! Just about perfect.
Now, if only S&W would make one w/ that front sight, in .357....sort of a new take on the .38-44 HD!

In my view the Patridge front sight adds value - the half moon sight is too "glarey" to suit me. Having the Patridge on there makes it look like the gun is owned by someone who wants to hit what he's aiming at. I have both a 21-4 and a 22-4 that could benefit from that sight swap. If resale value is a concern, a person could always swap back.

Mine is with the Org. front sight but no "HOLE", I did that.



As far a ammo, I have been reloading .44SPL's for 40 years now so
I can make loads just for this one & my M696 & 1923 target can adj. to whatever.....
