Since I bought my instructor's Detective Special when he passed away I have been on a Colt Snubbie buying and shooting spree.Well when I opened the safe the other day my CS9 was screaming at me to go out and play.It reminded me why I love that gun.Put a FBI Q target @ 40 feet and put 50 rounds thru the Q.Had a friend comment that "you made a preety expensive hole in that paper".All the best and God Bless....Mike

I envy you - the CS9 is one of those guns that perennially attracts me (and friend Fastbolt's longtime recommendation of the things and reports like this don't help :) ). I'm no doubt doing fine in this niche with my modified RAMI and my PPS, but . . . ah, I still click on every CS9 thread that comes up. :)

I just got mine "modified" to my personal preference. I put a Big Dog grip on it, and XS big dot sights. I love it! By the way, I have a full size M&P 9 that I use (and love) for target/plinking, but can't seem to buy a compact version for a CCW. I just love my CS9 way too much.

Like my CS9 so well that I'm going for its twin brother, the CS40. Boy are they proud of those.

My CS9 is heavily modified also.It was converted to DAO with a trigger job done @ Smith and Wesson.Big Dog CS9 Grip #1 is on my gun as it was Big Dog and I who teamed up on it's developement. It also went back for the "Gator Treatment".I also put Trijicon Night Sights too which fixed the low point of aim you get with the Novaks.I also used Mother's Mag Polish and a Dremel buffing wheel and took off the CS9 and S+W slide marking and Rennisance waxed the entire gun so now it looks totally clean. Some of these changes aren't for everyone put it is perfect to me.

Curious? Why would one polish off the printing on the side? Doesn't that kinda devalue the gun.

It was something I did that starterd accidentally.I was in a polishing mood and did my Model 640 and thought the Cs9 would look nice polished. When I started with hand pressure only the marking were comming off so I thought it would look sharp with the slide totally clean.I don't care about resale value because it will never be sold.I had it converted to DAO because I like that trigger as I have been a revolver shooter for many years. The trijicon sites and Big Dog Grips are my preference also.I will post Pics and you can see the differences.

In 2003 I bought a CS9 DAO brand new from a gun shop. I like the DAO, since like you I am used to revolvers. I like one trigger pull either da only or sa. I recently picked up a CS45 and I was toying with the idea of converting to DAO. May I be impolite and ask how much the conversion and action job from S&W set ya back?
I like the CS9 a lot better than the CS45.
I have also toyed with getting a Colt new agent 45 with the 3 inch barrel.

Absolutely crazy that S&W won't resurrect the CS line especially now that CCW is rapidly becoming one of the driving forces in the handgun marketplace.

When Kimber came out with the Solo, every gun mag and web site put this on their cover for months and Kimber still can't make them fast enough to satisfy demand. Kahr sells a lot of compacts with metal frames and 1911 subcompacts sell briskly.

And S&W has all of the machines and a proven design they could relaunch immediately! They should come with new, Big Dog style grips in Delrin, and S&W could make them in a Melonite finish.

Scandium CS9's, CS40's, and CS45's, with Melonite finish- I'd buy one of each.

I'd sure like to get a new or re-released CS9 :). I had a CS45 for a little while but sold it, didn't quite feel right to me. Felt too bulky, even with the Big Dogs.

I scored this Kimber a couple months back, on this forum, for a price too good to pass up. I'm not a big fanboy of Kimber, this is my only one, but this thing rocks.

Thanks to Erich...

Thanks to Erich for pointing me in the right direction for a CS45,
I've gotten a new liking for auto's. The BigDog grips were another plus.
If I ever go with a 9mm, it'll be the CS9. S&W sure did a nice job with these pistols. Glad you got yours. TACC1

I did this in 2010 and a gentlemen by the name of Carmine did the work.If memory serves me right I spent 275 dollars. With the DAO conversion the hammer appears 1/4 cocked which gets some strange looks from others @ the range.I have found another shooter that also likes 1 trigger pull either in da or sa.It is nice to know that there are others that share the same feeling.Oh the photo director, aka Mrs CRN, is feeding the pics in the computer so pics are soon to follow.God Bless

That Kimber is beautiful. Cruiser, you said they did a trigger job? Did it help with the reset or did it just make the pull lighter?

I have 2 45's, a Colt Combat Commander and the CS45. I like the feel of the Colt best, just as I like the feel of my 5946 DAO.

The trigger job made the DAO pull smoother but not necessarily lighter and the reset is right on point. For those who asked for pics I took and the "Photo Director",aka Mrs CRN put them in the computer... IMAG0161 pictures from entertainment photos on webshots IMAG0163 pictures from entertainment photos on webshots IMAG0164 pictures from entertainment photos on webshots IMAG0162 pictures from entertainment photos on webshots I realize that stripping the slide markings off is a sin to some, but what started out as a mistake grew on me.

It looks fine, especially if you are going to keep it. It is like a Harley, you strip the tank down and repaint it w/o the logo. You know it is a Harley.

I believe S&W will laser etch it again if you ever had the need to restore it.

Thank you very much G.I know that the clean slide is a crime to some but I just say it is a gun with character owned by a character.BTW feel free to use the pics on your site if you so desire....God Bless...Mike

While I certainly applaud your enthusiasm, the market would have to support the time, effort and financial investment of producing the metal-framed guns again.

I remember when the CS40 was dropped from the catalog. I'd called back to discuss something else with someone at the factory, and it occurred to me to ask about the CS40 at one point during the conversation. I was told that corporate had decided to drop the model when they tallied up the sales from the previous year ... and found they'd sold less than 100 units of the CS40 for the entire year. Bye bye.

As far as the Scandium frame for the little guns? Remember the pricing of the 4040PD? Well, during another conversation I'd been told that it had been felt by the corporate folks at the company that the high cost of the 4040PD, due mostly to the use of Scandium, had been largely responsible for it's lack of sales ... so it was dropped. (Now, I own a 4040PD, and while it's a nice compact .40 the same overall size as the 3913, the felt recoil makes shooting the 3913 with +P+ loads seem pretty tame and comfortable by comparison. Just saying ... )

Now, I'd like to buy a lightweight Scandium framed model of a couple of my favorite 3rd gen guns, like a 3913SC or a CS9S SC (I made those model numbers up, obviously ;) ).

I remember hearing rumblings about the possibility of the company making a special run of 4003TSW's for the CHP here in CA, back when they were discussing replacing their aging inventory of 4006's with a new gun. I was told the cost of making the TSW's using a Scandium frame was going to be higher. In the final analysis, the CHP apparently went with what they knew had already worked out well for them, meaning an all-steel gun, hence the contract for something like 9,600+ 4006TSW's (I forget the actual number).

I'm sure the CHP officers might have appreciated the lighter 4003TSW (with a Scandium frame), but it just wasn't meant to be, it seems.

I'd be right there with you in ordering a CS9 made with a Scandium frame (or even a 3913TSW made with the stronger frame material - hopefully sans the riveted rail, though).

I'd also expect to pay upwards of maybe $700 ordering such a mythical Scandium pistol under the discounted armorer purchase program, and see the retail price running at close to $1000 (or more). How many you want at that price? Might as well throw in the Melonite QP treatment and add another $100 to the cost while we're at it.

Another potential complication is that the equipment to make the 3rd gen guns was moved to the Houlton plant, which isn't all that big. They make handcuffs (brisk sales), the licensed Walther PP's, all the .22 pistols & the SW1911's (another good seller) ... and now any 3rd gen production that may be needed to fill a LE agency contract order. If time is money, what do you want them to cut back on to make the 3rd gen guns in any quantity ... and how much extra are you willing to pay for that privilege when it may involve cutting into production time for something else?

A CS9SSC? Nice idea. I'd like one to complement my well-used CS9. FWIW, the CS9 with a stainless slide is technically a CS9S, so the Scandium designation might toss an extra "S" somewhere in the model name. ;) I'd think you might start to see double looking at the model name of a CS9 with the carbon steel slide & a Scandium black finish frame if it were called a CS9CSC ...

How about a 3913TSWSC?

Dream on, though. I've been continually wishing someone would program the CNC equipment to produce a compact 39XX with a stainless frame - and an integral machined accessory rail - and call it a 3916TSW.

Might as well dream big while we're at it. :)
