My DIY mag extension

Since nobody makes a higher capacity magazine, or mag extension, I machined my own today. My prototype is just made out of acrylic and bolted together to test function. It bumps my 8 round magazine to a 10 round. I can fit an 11th round, but cant get the magazine to push all the way into the mag well. So, i'll need to shorten it slightly so I cant fit 11 rounds on accident.

If it functions, it'll be made out of some impact resistant plastic, and contoured to match the grip. I wouldn't trust it with my life, but it would be nice at the range/idpa.

Here's the mostly finished extension. Needs to be deburred and painted black. My nylon 6/6 is a deep navy or purple, not quite black.

What about the mag spring? I know the Shield mag springs are long but adding that much more room for the spring may cause issues and I think you realize it due to saying it would be for range use only. Very cool concept and skill though.

I think it will still be 100% reliable. Even extended, I dont really notice much pressure difference when loading the first round into an 8rd or 10rd magazine. But without doing longer term testing, I dont know about using it for defense.

I'm just using it at the range and matches. The 7rd magazine is my concealed mag of choice. With the +2 extension, the grip is as long as the slide! Maybe longer, I havn't measured it.

You can get the material in either cast, or extruded sheets. The part itself was completely machined on a CNC vertical mill.
