my first ar M&P 15 Sport II

I read about a buffer tube and/or spring upgrade that eliminates the spring noise. Anyone know what that is and if it works?

More shooting, less reading! :D I've never understood the issue regarding spring noise. There is a big spring in there. As it is forced to compress, then uncompress to push the BCG forward, there will be noise.

*agrees with cyphertext*

However............I can honestly say I swapped just my spring to a Damge Industries spring and really like how it cut down sound....and I spent like $8. If you really want to spend money and hate the noise, there is also JP Enterprises that makes silent capture springs.

Forgive me cyphertext.

Sorry, I just haven't shot too many different ARs. So they all make the spring noise?

Yup. I got a Damage Inustres chrome silicon spring a year ago. Turns a grinding squeeling operation into smooth and quiet. Freind of mine just pulled back the charge handle on my AR and ordered a CS spring from DI right there and then. ;)

Yes, perfectly normal.

Normal, agreed. But some make more noise than others. My Colt fixed rifle stock spring made a lot more noise than my Sport spring. In fact, my Sport still has the stock spring because I hardly hear it, whereas my Colt I swapped it.

finally got my sport II setup the way i like it.

ive installed all magpul moe furniture , streamlight polytac flashlight on utg mount, vortex strikefire II red dot

does anyone know anything else that im missing that i may need?

Try putting on Magpul BAD lever... Battery assist device.. Very sweet inexpensive add

M&P Sport II

My wife hated mine too-until I put Muddy Girl furniture on it and gave it to her along with a matching soft case, range bag and five magazines. For some reason, she likes it now:D

Oh, and the one thing you're missing is a good sling. Don't let the ads fool you either-there's nothing at all wrong with a good old fashioned GI web job.

"roundles" beat me to the wife issue...I had the same story with a different verse with my wife. Just get her involved...she drug me to the local indoor range yesterday and she shot until her fun meter pegged. We both had a "blast".

Here's what my Sport II currently looks like. Magpul stock and BAD lever, quad rail forgrip with added rail section around sight post, Primary Arms optic, Crimson Trace laser (off a pistol I don't use), Hogue grip. I think I'm done. Maybe a drop in trigger someday....

After I bough my GEN 1 Sport, I put a PA Micro Dot on her, which I liked. It's nice and small, and very light.

I recently swapped the PA MD out with a GEN 1 Vortex Spitfire 1X (SPR-1301) and I LOVE it. Yes, it's a bit bigger and heavier. But the etched glass reticle (witch appears black when the illumination is turned off or the battery dies) and the reticle size and shape itself just work better for me. So well in fact, that I pre-ordered the GEN 2 version (SPR-200) at a great price.

I'll A/B them once my GEN 2 Spitfire ships in the spring. Whichever I like better will go on my current AR and the other will be shelved until I get my M&P15T. Then I'll put whichever Spitfire I like better on the M&P15T and will most likely set my Sport up with my Nikon P-223 3X32 Scope. Then, I'll get a Sport II and put my Nikon P-223 3X32 Scope on her and put the GEN 1 Spitfire on my GEN1 Sport. Anything I can use for an excuse to get another AR, works for me!:D

I also put a MAGPUL MS3 Single QD Sling on my Sport. Great Sling, but the regular GI slings also work well, and they're inexpensive!

Looks like you have everything you need. A sweet looking rifle. As far as the spring noise, that tells you the buffer is working and I have never had an AR without it in some form or another.

I bought Tubbs flat buffer springs to eliminate all of the sproing noise for my ARs. They work great, being a longer spring they also make for a softer recoil. I also vote for the Strikefire2, I've got one on my AR .45 sbr but will buy a 2nd for my.22 dedicated upper. Im not a military looking AR fan but do like the sporting rifle look.

IMG_20160124_145735.jpgHere is my first AR15. S&W Sport 15. Guntec free float rail. Waitaki engineering suppressor can. Shoots 3/4" groups all day long with 65gr Sierra Game Kings. Devastating on wallabies (yes Australian wallabies in New Zealand) and Wild goats.
