My first Model 10

Bald1 - Beware. Model 10s are like French fries and potato chips. U can't have just one.
- TRUE!!!

I had a nice collection of Model 10s, mostly snubs, most of which survived my 2018 fire but got stained by water and fireman's foam so I sold most of them. These are the ones that I kept:

My first, purchased new in 1981, I think - I can't recall how many different stocks I had on there but the next to last set was bonded ivory and it totally discolored from the heat of the fire - so - VOILA! - it's back to S&W wood!:

This next one got some stains but as a rare .357 Magnum I couldn't part with it:

This thread reminded me that I spent quality time with my first Model 10 (dash 7 standard barrel) today at the range. The attached pic is after cleaning with a vintage Lewis Lead remover. It was a good day. I was the only revolver shooter (and the only shooter the range master allowed to be in the booth next to the wall). I am still smiling at fact that I noticed two of the younger dudes, taking a break from semi-autos, that stepped behind my booth to watch what I was shooting (I didn't tell them that I shot the 35 foot targets in single-action...they don't need to know).

Love my Model 10. Came with Pachmeyer Grips which really tame the massive recoil of those .38 cartridges. LOL.

Good luck with your purchase and good shooting. They are the most fun examples of old time smithing with excellent trigger.

Update on the Model 10. As I have developed arthritis in both hands, particularly in thumbs, I am finding the 4" Model 10 an exceptional solution. It is as accurate as ever in my hands. And, unlike 10 years ago, more accurate than any of my semi-autos (including the new S&W EZ 9mm - which surprised me). I went to the range today and, "wow" - I was unhappy with my 9mm semi-auto accuracy (unlike my history - and my expectations), but ecstatic about the Model 10. I may turn into the old man with the old revolver. #lastoftheboomers
