My first N Frame, what was yours?

Mine isn't near as nice as dlbx2's, but it's pretty o.k. It's a 25 no dash. The grips aren't original, but I believe they are correct for a 1960-61 gun.

My first N frame is a 6 inch model 28-2, #S2241XX, shipped April, 1962, and bought new by me about 2 weeks after it shipped. Paid $67.50. + 4%tax - $70.20 (included a box of
.357's). I still have the gun, but not the box of .357's.

My first was a 1976 purchase of a 29-2 4". At that time, 4" was only available, because it was not as popular as the longer barrel models.

How things change.

Model 29-no dash. Foolishly let it go in 1971. Didn't own another until 2009. Model 28-2. It remains one of my favorites, although I've purchased 19 more since then.

As promised, here are the pictures of my first and second N Frames.

The only N-frame and my first S&W revolver is a 4" 28-2 that I carried on duty many nights checking clients' property for illegal activity. It served and comforted me well during those nights. Glad I still have it close to 30 years later.

My 27-2 shipped in January of 1964. Has a S240XXX serial.

I'm slightly ashamed to admit the reasoning behind obtaining my first 'N' frame, which incidentally was my first S&W.

I was in my late teens, working summers and p/t at one of the largest GS's in the area. (mid-70's).
I had, of course, been spending most of my pay on things there, notably, my first centerfire revolver, a Ruger Security Six .357 in SS, as well as my first reloading setup.
I was determined to make that .357 perform yeoman's duty as a .44 magnum, regardless of the bore diameter and other triviality. After all,
I was most of the way to being a expert magnum handloader! Plus, I read everything I could collect of Elmer Keith and Skeeter Skelton's works. (yes, I was an odd teenager...)

I decided that the big ol' cylinder on a M28 would be just the ticket for me to 'go where no man had gone before' in .357 performance.
I traded a regular customer even, my Ruger for his NIB M28 6".

I tortured it for a few years with stuff that would have been most likely well beyond most proof loads - and failed to ever hurt it. It went away in a trade.
The real 'Smith Bug' didn't bite 'til about 6-7 years ago. I've got right many now.

I have a friend that owned a M28 and tried to make a .44 Maggie out of it. Rumor has it that he loaded some .357s that he had to crimp QUICKLY before the powder pushed the bullet out of the case!!!!!!! I believe he had another load that consisted of ground up strike anywhere match heads.

I think he had to use a punch to drive out cases on more than one ocassion.

Oh, and my first N frame was also my first S&W- a reblued 1917 that I carried as a deputy sheriff.

My first S&W was a blued 25-5 4", which I bought last year at an auction, because I thought "I'm gonna kick myself for not buying an N frame for $350". I had no idea the pleasure that awaited shooting a 45 Colt or an N frame, and now I say "and thats how it all started." :)

Wow what a bunch of beauties in this thread. And those grips dlbx2 are fantastic!

After many a K frame I finally dipped into the N frames and found this Model 27-2 with only 3 factory rounds through it. Heck I had to buy another one (S pre-fix circa my birth year) as I could not bring myself to shoot it.

Mine was a 6.5" 29-2 as new in box 1971 I think. Sold it and got into 1911's for many years. Now back to revolvers, mostly older 5 screw S&W's with a few others thrown in. I purchased that 29 when Dirty Harry was big and you could not find one anywhere. The prices for them were crazy as I recall.

Flint, that's a real beauty, and is a work of art that should be pampered. I agree, if it were mine, I'd be looking for a shooter as well.

My first N frame was a 28-2 6" that I bought off of one of the auction sites. Wrong grips, wrong box and no tools or literature. All of that doesn't matter as it is my favorite gun to shoot. I've learned a little more about Smiths since then and have made some more informed purchases, but I haven't bought a better shooter since then.

6 inch nickel model 27 i bought from a Maryland statie, just beautiful revolver. I stupidly sold it of course.

mine was a 29-2,blue,6.5"with presentation case...i purchased it new in sept.1976...i still have it and it looks as good as the day i brought it home!paid the princely sum of $350 for it

Mine was a new 629-1 which has seen about 350 rounds so far. Next was a used but like new 28-2 that has only seen one box of ammo. Both are 6 inch barrels. No pics right now.
