You'll like it. I prefer the 586 but all mine are older. Yours will shoot just as good as any ever made. I can't speak for the dry fire sounding like tin but it will be a "click" rather than a "thud". Maybe a bit different on the newer ones. 3rd gen autos have an odd sound when dry fired in DA compared to striker fired, 1911's or revolvers.

Post a range report when you can. Enjoy!

Thanks for the complements hope to shoot it soon , have 158 gr .38 spl and .357 mag . I think the ting sound is when hammer strikes the sound vibrates through frame and long barrel.

I have a Classic 19 with the sleeved barrel and separate firing pin mechanism. Dry firing sounds like thumping a barrel in a well.

Very nice looking revolver! I have a 586-8 four inch and also noticed the "tinny" sound when the hammer drops compared to my older 586-4 with the hammer mounted firing pin. But the gun still goes bang so that's all that matters!

My 586-8 did require the rear sight to be adjusted off center to the left far more than any other Smith I owned. I did later shoot it with optics and it was a pretty good shooter.

Let us know how yours shoots!

Great choice, easy to shoot well and a great platform to squeeze out all the potential of a 357. 357s shoot with comfort and great accuracy. L Frame best full HP 357 Smith ever built.

Only saved first 10ft and last 10 yard , shot best standing with 158gr fmj . Just fired 6 rds of .357 mag my usual spread at 10 yards .Only problem the cylinder locked up but was good to go after cleaning under the extractor. Planning to join new outdoor range so can shoot steel and water bottles.

A good looking 586. Bet it will be an excellent shooter. Enjoy it in good health.

Just a beautiful revolver Sir. I am also a fan of blue steel and wood stocks. Congratulations.

I was about to ask about those grips. They are very attractive! Do they work well for you? What was originally on the gun?
Just ordered the new grips or stocks , the OE stocks are still on the gun . OE stocks fit well I have medium sized hands.

Yes, that's a nice gun, and to make it quit sounding like a tin cup, put some cartridges in it!

Dang nab it! I promised myself there will be no more new guns this year! I recently bought one of those little Heritage Barkeep revolvers just to scratch that itch! Also bought a .22magnum cylinder with it; you know, for hiking in grizzly country! I really like the looks of that gun you have there, Mr. jbtrucker, and that blue & wood, as 41 Roadmaster stated, just puts it over the top in looks for me, also. I know of a gun shop that usually has .44 magnum & special, limit two boxes of each caliber whatever you buy, so I may have to take a little ride tomorrow, as they also have a pretty nice selection of firearms. Heck, do I really need to pay my mortgage this month?! Thanks for showing that new gun! Mrs. Refrigeration doesn't know I spent that astronomical amount of $225 for that little .22. She just might notice new S&W money out of the checking acct.!

Fine steel pings/tings/rings when struck with comparable quality steel. :)
