And its not a sigma!!

I recently bought a s&w 5906, I should be getting it on thursday from my FFL. I want to really go through the gun before i fire it, I was just curious is there any place i need to pay particularly close attention to while cleaning/inspecting??

Does this gun have any quirks I should be aware of?

OK, I'll join the fun. When you have finished and the gun is assembled, check the table top for 'spare' parts... :D

Seriously, I would give it a good cleaning, and then lube ONLY the parts shown in the Owner's Manual. Over-lubrication is a dirt magnet.

Have fun with your new gun.

The 5906 is an excellent platform and an awesome first S&W. But I will warn you that Smith 3rd Gens can be addictive (and S&W made enough of them in different configurations that you will want at least one of each). Cleaning and inspecting are pretty straightforward, just get rid of the gunk and make sure your gun is properly lubricated. I prefer to put a grease on the rails versus an oil. As far as quirks go, just shoot it and shoot it and shoot it. If you start having any issues down the road just send her back in to S&W and they will fix her up. Enjoy your new gun.

The 5906 is pretty close to indestructable. It can be on the heavy side, but that's not always a bad thing, depending on what you plan on doing with it. Let us know how it shoots.

thanks everyone, i really appreciate all the info! Spoke with my ffl today and he said it is in really good shape, so i cant wait to go pick it up in the morning! I will have to find a manual for it because it does not have one with it, but other than that I am stoked!!

ok so i got the gun today and it is in great shape. However it looks as if the previous owner used a punch to beat the rear Novak sight into place, why would you need to do that ???? The grips are beat up a bit but i had already planned on replacing with hogue's. Sooo.... other than being filthy, it is in great shape! I cant wait to take it to the range and shoot it!

Thats what the 5906's do best!
Shoot....... and mine is quite accurate I must say!
