I have never been a big fan of the SIG line of pistols. They always seemed big, bulky, appeared to have a high bore axis, and were WAAAY overpriced for my liking. Well that changed the other day when I walked into my LGS and there was a customer at the counter who wanted to unload a SIG P226R. As you can see from the before pictures this thing was hideous. But the seller was motivated and after a little haggling I walked out with my first SIG at less than half what the seller had into it. I told you he was motivated!

When I got home I quickly made a few changes to return it to "factory" configuration. A quick trip to the range and I have to say I am impressed. A full size pistol for sure, and with and 18rd mag and 1 in the pipe it is a formidable weapon. Does it shoot? Indeed it does...a ragged hole in the bull on the second mag. I am not saying I am ready to give up my M&P's, but I will say that this is a very nice handling and shooting pistol. A few pictures for your viewing pleasure. Trolling welcomed.

Gotta say that I have never been a fan of white grips on anything. But I actually thought your sig looked ehh ok with em on.
That was really hard for me to say, but truthful.

Great purchase. I have a P229 and P239 and love them both.

What's that ammo?

I like Federal's HST or Speer's Gold Dot in 9mm, both with 124 grain Plus P bullets.

Thanks for all the comments.

Grips are Hogue Extreme, they are aluminum and aren't really white, they just look white in the pictures. Here they are off the pistol:

Yes, 2 factory SIG 15rd and 3 MecGar 18rd mags.

Ammo is Federal 124gr HydraShok. I have used it for hunting with my 629 and had outstanding results.

Nice going! Sigs are really nice pistols. The P226 is a rock solid 100% reliable pistol.

I have two Sigs. Like you I always thought they were out of my price range. And they were. But one day about 6 years ago I was at a LGS and they had a P6. Eight round ex German police pistol with holster wear and little mechanical wear at a great price. I snapped that one up. It's a great CCW gun. Couldn't be happier with it. It turns out the German police had changed weapons and I caught the tail end of the surplus imports into the U.S.

A few months later a P226 CPO shows up at the same LGS. It is a factory reconditioned police trade in. CPOs are refinished and look new, and worn internals are replaced. At 50% of new price I bought that one also. It's accurate and runs 100% with and 9mm ammo

I've owned several 226s and hated to part with each one. If you get a chance shoot the 228. That's what convinced me to sell my 226.

Nice Sig. I'm on the look out for a German 226.

Have a 220 and a 228. Both German. Been thinking of adding a 229 in 40 but not sure I want another 40 though.

The weight makes it an incredibly soft shooting .40. I have had 2 and still have 1.

I carry a SIG 1911 Ultra Compact. My first SIG, and I love it. Not only is it accurate, I can shoot it well. The fit and finish is a cut above most else on the market today unless you get way out of their price range IMHO.

I own 3 Sig pistols. Each bought because they filled a niche very well. Each is very well made, reliable and remarkably accurate. Highly recommended.

Nice Sig enjoy it. Own a few Sigs myself. :)

I have owned in the past P226 Navy NSW serial number, P226 Tactical with threaded barrel worked over by Gray Guns and a few bone stock German P226s.

Only have one left in the stable... German P226 with a barsto match barrel and a fiber front with stock rear.

Oh boy...

You have joined the Sig family. It's a proud tradition, unfortunately once you join the family there is no leaving. It's an addiction. The P226 now, then comes it's little brother, the P229. The likelihood of it snowballing is high. I too am a S&W fan, but I fell into the Sig spell many years ago. There is no cure, just try to adjust and reframe from going on a Sig spending spree. :D

I was like that at one time. These days I am down to just a few.

P228 X2
P220
P225
P320 45 ACP
SP2022
P226

Many others have come and gone. ;) I really like the new P320 platform. After thinking I would never buy a new Sig, I prefer the older W. German guns, I bought the P320 in 45 and really like it.

My first real handgun was a P228 which I cut my teeth on. Pretty good pistol to start on.
