MY GARDEN IS PROTECTED !

.
well, i left out a bowl of milk as a thank you for hunting my garden.
in the morn, it was gone.
that night, i left out milk, a piece of pork n water.
in the morn, that was gone.
so, i ordered 16 pounds of friskies, because all cats like friskies.
she won't show herself, but comes every night to eat.

I may be late to this party but If you feed her to much, she will quit hunting. Take it from experience. You may consider a litter box to see if she will go in there. Smell gets pretty rank after some time.

yeah, i may be feeding too much.
i don't think cud hunts much.
he doesn't even like to go outside much.
he is a disappointment.
i have no need of a house cat, even tho he cuddles n purrs.

Wow, susie....1000 posts!! I sure never anticipated that when you started this thread. I guess we have more cat folks than I would have anticipated.

Bella is extremely gentle, and never puts her claws out, or nips. But Lucky is a "love biter". He will very gently put his teeth on my hand, like a little nip, but very gentle. Purring loudly all the time.

An update:

All six are doing incredibly well. This is their regimen.

Dry food during the day;

Each gets one of these every evening. (Ruthie calls at 11:00 to say she is coming home. Pavlovs kitties take this as a dinner bell and break into the howlelujah chorus.

Before Ruthie goes to bed, she rattles these and is stampeded and the late night games begin:

Watching these Keystone Kats is better than most tv.

rusty, you didn't say how much kibble they eat.
i've been feeding 2 tuna fish cans/day.
i don't know who eats what. they each start out eating from one bowl n then they switch bowls.
they don't feel like any bowl is theirs.

they also get pate that lasts 3 days, so, 1/6 can/cat/day.
the pate is a reward for coming to the curfew call, so i can't stop that.

how much should i feed to make sure they hunt?
if they don't hunt, i won't like them much.

Mine don't hunt unless you count my ankles when I walk too near the sofa. The bizarre thing is that my cats will not eat table food, any type of seafood or drink milk.

I leave the kibble out all day and they just nibble preferring to hold out for the wet stuff.

If you want to keep yours a wee bit hungry take up the kibble before noon and later split a can of tuna between them. If I have canned cat food, two cans (not the birds) more than satisfies my six.

drifter went out at 7am. she came in for a snack n a quick nap at noon n was back out by 1pm.
this is what a cat is supposed to do.
cud refused to go out.
i forced him out at 2:15, a few minutes ago,
he is crying to come back in.
i don't know how to fix him.
he is not earning his keep.
yeah, he's very cuddly, a purr machine.
this is fun because drifter never purrs.
i'm growing to dislike him anyway.
i should never have spent all that money on him.

Try to enjoy the things you like about cud... At least he provides contrast to drifter's personality. Even though you weren't looking for a pet, he can keep the mice out of the house, hopefully! Have a good Sunday [emoji6]

well, i have little choice,
cats seem to understand how to make a place for themselves.
drifter gave me the pest control i needed.
cuddles cuddles.
he has spent too much time in my arms for me to toss him out.

besides i can't place him. it turns out that cats i bring up can;t adapt to other people.

I can understand that... He may yet develop into a more ardent hunter.. Wait to see what happens next spring... In the meantime, I know what you mean with how each cat makes a place in your life and in your home. When I had 4 indoor kitties, each one had a very individual personality and function in our home and our lives. The reason I got the first Papillon is because they, as a breed, have a way of understanding the hierarchy of a cat"family" and he did fit in and was accepted by each one in a different way. It really worked out well while all the kitties were alive.. They were pretty elderly when Jackson came along 12 years ago. There's one left, Roxie, and she lives with my daughter and son in law and she's about 18 now. At some point I will get kitties again. I love the way they are and I miss having them (I don't miss the litter box tho-lol) I get my kitty-fix when I visit Miss Roxie at my daughter's house. [emoji175][emoji175]

the litter boxes are a problem. drifter only needs one.
with 3 boxes wouldn't have to clean daily, because drifter only needs them at night.
cud uses them all day n hold it if he's outside.
he doesn't double the work.
he more than triples it.

i guess drifter spoiled me.
she is the perfect cat.
possibly because she is not a pet.
she is a person that lives here.

Before I forget... Happy Thanksgiving this coming week to all our friends (and their families) on this thread. Love to all your kitties and pups too! Stay warm and safe [emoji458][emoji324][emoji322][emoji3511][emoji491][emoji490]

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, EVERYONE!
i thot i'd tell you what;s going on.
ME, I'M DOING VERY WELL, AFTER A BUNCH OF YOU WISHED ME HAPPY B DAY.
drifter is being drifter.
in the eve, she is always between my legs,
i'm not sure if this is affection, or just she likes the warmth.
it doesn't matter much, because when i'm not typing, i'm stroking her.
she knows i love her.
she acts wild during the day. she acts like i'm a scary monster, unless she's hungry.
she is taking care of business, spending hours outside hunting.

i need her out there, but i pay a price, her current daily routine is to go in n out 6 or 8 times/day.
i am her doorman.

cuddles is an enigma.
he is not agoraphobic. he doesn't fear the outdoors, but cries to come in after 15 minutes, if alone.
he does come when drifter n i both go out n he stays with us.
but he wants company at all times.
when he's out with drifter, she mostly hunts alone, so he wants to come in.
he doesn't need to be on top of me, but he wants me around.
i do not understand a cat that doesn't love being outside.

he constantly rearranges the house. if i toss my clothes around when i go to bed, they are usually at the other end of the house when i wake.

i do wish i could take better pics.
some of you may remember when a giant cat showed up here.
i think he was cud's dad.
cud is huge. he must weigh 20 lbs. n, he's still growing.
i know some of you have big cats, but they carry some fat.
there is no fat on cud.
everything he eats goes to growth.
he was a normal size kit, but now he's 3 times as big a drifter.
i worried about him bullying drifter, but when they fight, drifter usually starts it.
small as she is, she is in charge.

Thanks for the update, susie...I think cud just wants to be with you!! He has bonded with you, and if you are inside, that's where he wants to be!! When you go outside, well, that's where he wants to be. Try to get us an updated pic of cud and drifter. He sounds like a big boy.

It's crazy, you, me, and snubby sharing the same birthday, and all of us are "cat people"...

Have a great Thanksgiving!!

i'm celebrating b days today.
this morn i had to go to town while being unable to walk.
i couldn't relax yesterday while dreading that.
now it's over n i'm having fun.

Happy Birthday Susie, Les and Snubby! My grandson almost shares a birthday with you. He'll be 2 tomorrow on Thanksgiving day! Enjoy your Turkey Day tomorrow everyone!!

i'm kinda sorry that i neutered cud.
i think he's gonna be the biggest cat ever n good breeding stock.
i think he was picking on drifter last night, so, when he asked to go out, i let him out for the night.
i'm sure he wanted to get in after a few minutes but no way was i gonna getup. i left the tv on so i couldn;t hear him crying/
from now on, if he wants to go outside at night i'll let him out.
he definitely prefers the nights n temps are mid 30s to mid 40s, so he's fine out there.
i know from drifter that temps below 25 aren't pleasant, so i'm watching the forecasts.
he has a heavier coat than drifter so he should be fine down to 20 degrees, but i don't want him to be uncomfy.
i want him to enjoy the outdoors.

hi, joe.
i made a devils food cake with chocolate frosting n whipped cream.
now, i'm working as hard as i can to get ready for tomorrow.
made a potatoe casserole n stuff so i can watch the macy's parade tomorrow.
gotta see santa.
