well, no mousing around here.
it's been 10 degrees for 2 days straight.
i let the kits out to experience 10, so they wouldn't bug me about staying in.
today finally hit the 20s so i let them out.
you never saw such happy kits.
they are out there, zooming around at 100mph.
today,they don't care about a little snow.
they are having fun.
these guys really need outdoor time.

My little dogs love the snow and zoom around like your kitties do. Of course I have to make paths for them so they actually do their business in addition to having fun and getting some exercise. We got a foot of snow the other day and the dogs are about 8" at the shoulder. I have to minimize the physical stress on the spine for Logan who had disc surgery 1 year ago. Jackson is built of a little tougher stuff and has a much thicker bone structure. I enjoy watching them frolic around in the fenced backyard. I'm always right there anyway because there's a small pond about 1 mile away that has become the home of 2coyotes lately. I understand coyotes can jump a 4' fence and mine is 6', but if there's a log on the other side of the fence it could change the dynamics. Coyotes don't bring rulers and look at the fence and say"nope"! Lol. Wondering if I should take my H-K outside in case the coyotes or bear come over. Trouble is that I'm only on 1/2 acre and the houses are only about 100' apart in the backyard area and it's illegal to do that. Knowing me, I'd probably shoot (in a safe direction only) and ask questions later....

Thanks! I will try that... Logan is the one who's training for"quiet" and"come/here". Logan is a little weak on"sit" tho he knows what to do... Because of the surgery he had on a disc a year ago, he can't hold the sit position for very long. But I'll give it another try. He's much more stable than the last time I tried to have him hold a long"sit". And I know he won't hold it longer than it's physically comfortable [emoji847][emoji847]

if logan knows SIT, you are half way there.
what i do is put him on a 4' lead n make him sit.
then i step away n say PUPPY, COME while giving a jerk on the lead.
not to hurt, just a cue.
eventually, he'll come in front of you.
then you make him sit n praise him.
then, say OK to release him from the command.
do this again n again.
i like to do 15 minutes/day.
finish when he has done well n say OK n cuddle him up for 5 minutes.

once he has mastered this n you move to other training, you still start with these 2 commands'\
after a week or so, you will see he looks forward to this.
that's why i do it daily.

once he has done this, you can try GO TO HEEL n HEEL if you want.

the most important command is DOWN STAY.
see, if they come in muddy, you can put them in a DOWN STAY while you go get a rag to clean them up.
no muddy floors to clean.

i can give you more details if you want.

I'll try that [emoji106] he just can't sit too long or too well since his surgery because his back is tight sometimes and I can't push it. It's hard to tell if he's not sitting because he can't or if he just doesn't want to. He's very good at heel. He actually follows me at heel all over the house all day [emoji38]

it's interesting to see how cats adapt to their environment.
i'm thinking of the ladder i've kept up since drifter started using it.
not just for the roof, both kits climb it half way n then step onto the fence to get out.

when drifter first started using it, she would get her front paws on a rung, then carefully brinng her back legs down, very carefully.
i guess she still does that, but now she just flows rapidly down the ladder.
i haven't seen cud climb down lately, but i see going up, he's fast,.
he's so big, he walks up the rungs using the exact same gait he uses on leval ground.
both are better on the ladder than i ever was.
i'm gonna set up another ladder outside the fence.
they mostly jump to the top of the fence, coming in, but a ladder might be handy if there's trouble n someone is injured.

by the way, it looks like drifter is sharing her den with cud,
there was the worst sand storm i ever saw, visibility often down to zero.
the cats were out n couldn't get back.
when the wind dropped late in the day i called them in.
neither had been out in the storm.
they were fresh n clean n happy.
this was the kinda storm that would take a layer of skin right off besides blinding you, so it's nice drifter shared.
her den is weather n coyote proof where she lived for much of her life.

Cats are so resilient when they have to find their own solutions to survive. I think it's great how well they use their ladder and it's heartwarming how drifter shared her safe snug den with her son. I bet they cooperate a lot more than you know, like two kids who protect each other in the schoolyard but fight with each other at home in front of Mom [emoji75][emoji74]

I've been following this post since the beginning. We have new neighbors and they are a delight. Three boys, under 11, 4 horses, 2 large kittens, and a 120# dog that is pure love. I can walk the dog twice a day, and we both enjoy it. We have grandchildren that are free, and pet animals with no financial cost -- life got great.

i don't like using poison.
last year i only used it in fall, but cud is very thin.

If cud is thin and you know he's eating well, take a stool sample to your vet and have it checked for parasites. They can eat all the food from the cats intestines and make them severely anemic and they can die. Please have the stool checked.. It's important. And if they find anything in the stool, have them give you enough medicine to cure drifter too. The mice they eat carry parasites and the kitties can catch them. Let me know...

for one thing, he doesn't poo in the house.

sometimes, they have to pee in the middle off the night,
but they prefer to use the sandbox my land is.

Then maybe get him to the vet when you can if you see significant weight loss in a kitty that is presumably well fed and also gets Mousie snacks while he's defending the cash crop.

worse, she hasn't shown up for breakfast.
this hasn't happened since there were kits trying to rape her.

i went out to the garden n found drifter curled up.
i noticed cud spent only minutes outside.
usually, i just see him if he wants a snack.
so, something bad is around.

drifter gets in by scratching the aluminum front storm door.

she couldn't get there safely, so she stayed in the garden where it's safe.
