MY GARDEN IS PROTECTED !

I'm glad they're home safe and that they're smart and hide from the predators. Worming them is a good idea (if it's compatible with what you give them monthly for heartworms etc

monthly?
i've been doing yearly
Worms are treated yearly I think (my vet checks poop yearly for worms) do you give them monthly heartworm treatment? We used to give that to our kitties and still do with our dogs. You wrote that revolution kills worms... That's the product we give our dogs monthly primarily for heartworm. It also kills fleas ticks and some types of worms but there are many dangerous parasites that outside animals are exposed to. The most dangerous I've found is giardia, which has a special test done that the vet sends out. My dogs each had it twice and it can be fatal if not treated promptly especially in smaller animals. It is very common in the South. Jackson came from Texas and had it when we got him and Logan was from Rhode island and he had it shortly after we brought him home, so it has a broad range. It's not as common in arid area and I'm not sure if your area has it commonly. It's curable with a couple of weeks of an inexpensive antibiotic. For my dogs the main symptom of it is diarrhea...

i didn't think revolution was used that often.
i thot it was quarterly or something.
i do have heartworm meds, but i thot revolution took care of that.
les. didn't you say you use revolution?

i have everything on hand, but putting poisons on my kits is hard to think off.

I'll have to check. I haven't used it during the winter, and I'll be starting soon, as its warming up now. Fleas and ticks will be out soon. I just vacant recall off the top of my head. But I do remember the vet telling me that whatever I'm using is for fleas, ticks, and I think heart worms as well. Maybe some other parasites also. I'll get back with you guys.

Best Regards, Les

is it possible for a 14 month old cat to have a growth spurt?
cud is already the biggest cat i've met.

Revolution is primarily used for heartworm. And the form I use on my dogs is a dropper you squirt on back of neck monthly. It also takes care of fleas ticks and certain, but not all, worms. The product has a form that is given monthly to cats as well. A long time ago, I briefly used a heartworm preparation by injection that was given every 3 months but the cat I had would twist violently when I gave him an injection, so I went back to the form on the back of the neck that you give monthly. Read your package to double check which type you have.(FYI on injections-cat skin is very tough and you have to push the needle in much harder-not deeper- than you would for a dog or human) so I was always afraid that the needle would break in my cats skin when I injected the 3 month type. There are so many forms and different brands available now that there should be one that will protect your kitties. The worms and parasites will kill them faster than the preventive meds will, tho. I was very concerned about giving poison to my pets too, so I understand. That's why you need to know how much the cat/dog weighs in order to give the right dose. It will be different strength for drifter than for cud, if he's much bigger than she is.

BTW, if I push thanks, nothing happens on Tapatalk now even tho I'm a member of this site. I don't know why this happens, but I'll keep trying to fix it because I am grateful to all posters and will always push "thanks"... Linda

My vet insisted that we give heartworm meds all year round for at least the last 5 years to both inside/ or outside dogs and cats. Les, check with your vet to double check if their recommendation has changed like mine did to ask year round.

as i recall, mine called for applying revolution to the back of the neck every 3 months.
i'm just trying to find out how much others stretch this out.
right now, drifter is around 7 lbs, but cud is at least 3 times her size.
standing on the ground, he can reach the door knob to try to open it.
i'm now thinking his dad was big cat, the one that needs no fear of coyotes,

Stretching it out may not help (in the same way that taking an antibiotic sporadically rather than continuously taking it for the week prescribed)... It may kill off the weaker strains of heartworm and the other things revolution works for, and leave the stronger ones living in your animals. Many vets had us use revolution from last frost in spring to the killing frost in the fall with a "break" from winter to spring each year. They found that this could be harmful if there was a lingering infestation of heartworm in the animals hearts from fall to spring building up unchecked. At that point if the client restarted the revolution in spring without the annual heartworm blood check, it could be more harmful at that stage in the disease. I have gone back and forth with my vet about this med being poison in my animals' veins, and worrying, like you do, about that. 32 years ago my vet was at the forefront of curing heartworm in dogs in our area and saved my newly adopted dog from heartworm in years where most dogs died from it. My Smokey lived another 13 years using the medicine she had used in horses for another purpose and was uncommon to use in dogs. It then became a mainstay in the fight against heartworm that was killing dogs in the South. So, I give my dogs heartworm protection monthly year round and make sure that I don't lose them to a deadly disease that is preventable. In cats, heartworm is a slightly different disease than it is in dogs . Attacks the lungs more.

SUMMER TIME, N THE LIVIN' IS EASY....
yup
all thru winter, my kits ate 6 times/day.
the last couple months, they were mostly outside, but insisted they could come in, so they still ate 6 times/day.

this past week, it's down to 2 meals, if that.
mice must have been breeding well.
they are even giving me trouble about coming in for curfew.
the good thing is they still think this is home.
they know full well they can make a good living outside, but they still come to be with me.

They love their Mama, who is always there for them and who receives the blessings of their mouse hunting skills. Love is Grand! [emoji175][emoji175] Glad y'all had a Happy Easter [emoji235][emoji195]

Yesterday was a bad day for me. Little Boy, or "L.B.", as we called him, passed away. He had had his 14th birthday Saturday, April 13th. He was an exceptional cat.
