MY GARDEN IS PROTECTED !

Logan is doing fine and getting packed for vacation. Amazing what you have to bring for a dog that has to have everything"just so" in order that he doesn't eat anything he shouldn't. He needs a playpen for when we leave and plastic steps for when he wants to come up or down the bed (previous back surgery- no jumping off high things). Then there's special food and treats, bottled water, meds, and recommendation to local vet just in case. Then there's his life vest for being near the water at the beach. He's got that for his Physical therapy class. He's got more" luggage" than I do. I have one carry on and a pillow. Can't wait to go. Pray for sun in Chatham, Mass. Supposed to rain from Sunday thru Thursday... Not constantly but we can't change that.. Gotta take the raincoat tho! Have a good Father's Day,Les[emoji175] my two guard dogs ready for anything, below at my door [emoji175][emoji175]

I'm also sad to hear about KAOS... Today marks 3 years that I lost my beautiful tortie, ZZ. She was almost 22. They add so much to our lives, in companionship and love. RIP KAOS[emoji120][emoji120]

Back from vacation and we had a great time in Chatham on Cape Cod. Logan had a tick bite in his armpit that we discovered on the way home... Seems like we live at the vet lately. I pulled the tick out but it fell thru the deck boards and I didn't have it to show my vet yesterday. So he was put on 14 days of antibiotic as a precaution for Lyme disease and to fix the infection he had at the site of the bite. He'll be fine and I'm glad we went to the vet rather than wait for symptoms to pop up. So we're back in action and heading to physical therapy and acupuncture for him soon. Hope everyone is doing well and will talk to y'all soon [emoji4]

I SEE PEOPLE HAVE BEEN POSTIN, BUT I WASN'T NOTIFIED.

anyway, i've been wondering how ferals are different from house cats.
now that cud is a young adult, i can compare.
he's the smartest cat i've met, but that's genetic.
both parents were feral n stupid ferals don't live long enow to breed.

cud is the biggest cat i've seen. that's only partly genetic because i think drifter is so petite because she never had enow to eat, growing up.
between drifter's milk n my friskies, cud has always had a good diet so he got his max growth.

cud is messier than drifter, the perfect lady. but he's a boy.
he gets in big fights with plastic grocery bags n rips them to shreads.
i don't scold him for this tho.
i watch n he holds the bag in his front paws n disembowels the bag with back paws.
so, he doesn't eat plastic.

the big difference betwen them is cud's confidence.
he's the most confident critter i've met.
i wish i had half his self confidence.
he has carried his tail high his whole life. it took drifter 5 months to do that.
drifter is not confident that she won't be eaten if she isn't careful.
she would never nap unless in the house or walled garden.

the other day, i saw cud sound asleep ot past the water tank.
flat on his bak, front paws as high over his head s possible. back legs too.
this could get him killed
he's big enow to fight off a dog, but not a coyote.

it's hard to tell about hunting skill.
drifter had to hunt well or die, but he never has had to.
drifter even proved scientists wrong.
cats are classed chase preditors while cougars are ambush predators.
but, drifter can't run down a bunny, she she ambushs them.she is very good at staying still til one comes in reach, then pouncing.
i'll never know if cud could do this.
drifter like bunny so much they are all gone.

still. when cud misses curfew, he's not that hungry the next morn, so he finds his own snacks.

when cuddles spots prey, his stare is so hard you'd think it could pin it to the ground.
then when he leaps you can see joy in him.
he becomes fully alive.
if he misses the first attack, he gives chase.
he would chase his dinner threw a wall of flame if necessary.
this is very pleasing.

unfortunately, i haven't answered my question as to the difference between house cats n ferals.
cuddles has been raised by drifter n myself.
how normal is he likely to be?

Nice hearing about cud and drifter and that they're well, suzyqz ... Hope you guys are enjoying the dinner and the figs are doing well too. Enjoy!

cuddles caught a bird.
i wish i knew how he did that.
i think it has something to do with his ability to leap 5 foot high in a single bound.
my kits are atheletes.

actually, i like birds, but i've been picking grapes for the last week n in 2 weeks i'll have figs.
birds, mice n rats love sweets so, killing birds is part of his job,

i don't know how many he has got.
he plays with the dead bird for a while.
then, he seems to dislocate his jaws n swallows them whole, leaving no trace.
i have never lost a fig or a grape, compared to other people who report losses up to 90%.
once a pest finds sweets, he comes back every day til there are no more.
the value of crops saved is higher than costs of cat food n amortized neutering.

i love them for themselves, but even more for their help.

not gonna talk about how i have tons of mice in the house.
drifter brings live ones in to play with.
then, the klutz loses them.

CUDDLES WON HIS SPURS!
the other night, cud didn't come in at curfew,
he does this every couple weeks.

when i let him in for breakfast, i saw an evil bunny by the truck!

bunnies have been extinct here since drifter loves the taste, but, this one must have been trying to recolonize this area,

i thot this was more proof that cats were not just chase predator.
but, drifter is forced to be an ambush predator if she wants a bunny dinner.
cud is so big he might not need to do this.
he may be able to run down a rabbit, so the jury is still out.

evil bunnies out here can kill off a garden, eating stuff they never do up north, so i'm real happy about cud's great work.

that bunny wasn't wasted. he disappeared shortly, so someone ate him.

by the way things are still very cuddely around here.
i'm not talking silly any more but i'm talking lots to these guys
like i would to a toddler.
i use bigger words tho.
the difference is i talk a lot.
i tend to be silent, at least til now,
what cats want is just to be talked to, so i'm chattering away.

this causes some problems.
i'll be brushing drifter between my legs n cud will jump into my arms .
since i lie here supporting myself on my left elbow. cuddling 2 kits is hard.
i can't let someone think the other gets more cuddles, so i go thru contortions to pay attention to everybody,

i do it tho.
i like things this way,
these guys are the most loving kitts around
drifter even came to me in the garden n let me stroke her.
unheard of.

Glad everything is happy in Susieland and that cud and drifter are doing a good job keeping your cash crops safe. And they had a little bunny/bird snack on the side [emoji106]. All the kitties I had did love to be cuddled and talked to and one or two would talk back sentence by sentence. Everything's pretty good here. Enjoy the rest of the summer. It's been hot here and I'm glad this week the heat will back down and the humidity will be gone [emoji4] Be well!
