My Latest Addition SW40VE

I think you will love the SW40VE- mine fits my hand like a glove, and it eats everything- jacketed and lead reloads. If you can shoot a double action revolver, the Sigma is no problem.

I had a Model 40E. It's the enhanced version with night sights. Bought it used; it had an import stamp on it. I some research and found out it was originally purchased by a department of the Canadian government. Since it was used, the trigger was as smooth as butter. Never had a lick of trouble with it.

A short story about a guy that used to work at my PD and carried a newer Sigma .40.

At that time, I had just bought a used Glock 23 and was qualifying with it for the first time. We were shooting up some old duty ammo that had been in the safe, even though we hadn't carried it for 5 or 6 years (Federal 180gr Hydra Shoks). We weren't using only the Hydra Shoks, it was being doled out a little at a time by the head instructor with our regular practice ammo. The guy carrying the Sigma and another Officer carrying one of the blued Value Line 3rd Gen .40 autos each had a case head separation. With both of them, they were able to take a pencil and get the case out of their chambers, the case heads were long gone and they were back in business with no other problems.

I, on the other hand, given Glock's less-than-optimum case head support, suffered a case head separation which blow the extractor and mag out of the gun. I had suffered the dreaded "Glock kB!"! Luckily, I was OK and a quick trip back to Glock fixed the gun right up. As it turned out, the ammo was the Hydra Shoks (I found my case head). Evidently, there was a BUNCH of Federal .40 ammo that had been recalled some years before for this problem, we hadn't heard about the recall and didn't know any better. However, I was impressed that the guys with the S&W autos didn't have any problems, while my Glock was down for the count.

I started doing some research and looking back over our past qualification records. The guy with the Sigma consistently qualified with no problems at all and NEVER had any malfunctions, unlike the majority of the guns our Officers carry (Glocks, other S&W autos, a couple of Sigs, heck, even a S&W M66 revolver). Most of those malfs were operator error (limp wristing, failure to fully insert mags, improper reloading for the revolver since an empty slipped under the extractor star). This research, even though it uses a very limited sample group (one lowly Sigma), impressed me. This Officer had the cheapest gun there, had the least problems and had a good, consistent score, even if it wasn't the best recorded. I shot his Sigma and was suitably impressed.

If His Majesty the Obama hasn't banned hi-cap mags by the time I'm ready, I'll be in the market for a high-cap 9mm before too long and a 9mm Sigma is DEFINATELY in the running! Never thought I would be intentionally looking at a cheap, "low-end" gun, but my experiences and everything I have read about the Sigma autos impresses me. And, they feel SO GOOD in the hand!

ok, so I've been doing some research about rail lights for this gun... And from whAt I've seen the only light that fits withOUT the rail adaptor is the streamlight M4. The problem is that it's a bit diffulicult to find at an affordable price. I've found a few of these online and the cheapest one gas been $162

Do any of you have any recommendations?

Thanks,

Mike

I had the SW40VE Allied Forces (Black slide) and it was awesome. Completely and utterly reliable. Trigger sucks, yea, and it kicks kinda hard compared to some others, but I would trust my life to it any day. You will love it. It fit my hand well too. Fun to shoot. Some will trash talk it but no bother...they dont know any better. Its a great gun.

I'd like to find a couple of more magazines for this pistol. A couple for the range and one for defense loads. Anyone have a good place to purchase or a web site to look at.

Check CDNN for mags 29.95 new 15 or 14 rnds. E-mail me I have a 15 rnd used for 20.00.

Finally got to shoot my 40VE. Got to agree it fits the hand and feels great. I got mine while the special was on, $$off and 2 extra mags. Since it came with 2 mags that's enough for any short of a barricade situation.
I had to be in an indoor range. That produced the only negative I've got for the thing. I can't see the white dots while standing in a dark port. That will be attended to. All thing else it's a fine, fun gun. I'm used to a 1911, but the .40 seems like a usefull alternative.

Finally found the time to go to the range today and met up with a fellow S&W Forum member (stuccoman) for a first time meet and shoot. Well the SW40VE was everything I read about. Sweet gun with a very heavy trigger pull. IT will take a little getting use to, but I'm up for it. I just hope that the more rounds I fire the trigger pull will get a little better. As for my new acquaintance, Stuccoman, it was a pleasure to meet you and we will have to go shoot again in the very near future.

Mike,
Try this link, S&W sells one for the Sigma for $119.99...

My Sigma had 7 light strikes and 2 stovepipes in 400 rounds. I sent it to S&W also complaining the trigger was "mushy and grainy". Ten days later I had it back and have put 600 more assorted brand, both FMJ and JHP down the pipe with no issues what so ever. They polished the feed ramp and opened up the throat, put in a new recoil rod and spring. They said they "adjusted trigger". Not sure what they did there but it is an entirely differant pistol. Still a little long and hard but smooth and no more "whan the hell is it going to go bang". The break is very good and a touch of MilTec grease at the sear contact points made it even better. Another thing that improved my groups ten fold is I don't squeeeezzzze the trigger but rather matter of factly pull that SOB without hesitation and POI is right where you want it to be. I'm going to try point and shoot next trip to the range. The ergonomics of the Sigma are perfect for this. I carry it daily and absoulety couldn't be happier with it!

I called the S&W service center number and told them that the Trigger Stank and was too hard to pull. They gave me a place to send it here in Texas and 7 wk days later she is home and is shooting sweet just like any S&W should.

even though i've owned my SW40VE for about 2 weeks now,i still haven't been to the range yet to try it out..

heavy trigger pul shouldn't bother me to much seeing that i'm used to the pull on a Beretta 92D(which is about 13#)

The 92 has a better trigger than the VE, but the Sigma is a fun piece for not a lot of money that carries easily.

My VE 40 now breaks at 5.5 pounds and is as sweet as any other S&W I have ever owned. Total cost a 1 dollar charge by the shipping center to hold the package instead of having left at my house. If your not happy with your Sigma Trigger get S&W to fix it for ya.
