My Model 39

Nice model 39 Flip18.
An upcoming auction has a model 39, s/n 85618, no dash that I am considering putting a bid on. It's in good condition and has the long extractor. I already have a 439 and 5904 and thought the 39 would go well with them. My brother, a former LEO, told me I was crazy to buy them both as he thinks they are ***'s but I like the way they shoot and have had no problems with them. Can't decide how high I'm willing to go but current internet bid is only 220.

I have a 39-2 with 4 mags. One is a polymer follower and the other 3 have the metal follower that looks like a stretched out letter "X".

They all work fine and frankly until this thread never realized that I had two different kinds of magazines.

The auction is tomorrow nite (6-11). I will not get my hands on it till tomorrow right before the auction starts. Any advice on what to look for? I'm mostly a wheel gun guy. The gun looks to be in good shape but won't know for sure till tomorrow. No box that I know of.

Hello JP, check the mag for steel or plastic follower. Bottom mag plate
Will have S&W or 9MM stamped on it. Step feed ramp and 9mm stamped on breech. Mainly high point blue wear. Less is better. Really tough call.
They are not that hard to find. Go with your gut, $500 is getting close to break point. If its ragged out, $350. Keep me posted.

Mike 2796,
It did have a steel follower and 9mm stamped on it. I'd say the gun was in the 90 % range and went for 650 before premium and tax so it went for well over my max. Thanks for the info and didn't mean to break into this thread. But I did get the bid on a M&P 1905 4th change so I'm happy.
