Lock or no lock that is one FINE looking revolver! I hope you enjoy the hell out of it.

I gave my "testimony" one page before you asked this question. (Page 9)

Mike, I did that because I wanted everyone to be proud of me for not buying a new S&W.

I know emotions are running high over the lock issue, but lets think about this for a moment...

Yep, no lock and no MIM parts on the Redhawk. As for as my two new S&W's go, maybe I'll find some use for them.

So you don't want MIM parts and then bought a gun made out of a CASTING?

That was bright......

I haven't seen a Redhawk in a while. Aren't they the ones with a book written on the barrel? The owner's manual or something? I think I could live without that.

No, actually I like MIM parts. You're sorta dense, aren't you? I don't think that Ruger guns need any defense. You aren't too bright are you, Mr. Earp?

Jealous? Just try saving up and you can get one.

I have been working on a insert replacement for the IL in my sons 44 mag. On taking the IL out I can see why it can lock up on recoil. It has to do with parts tolerences and spring pressure.
I have seen the thread for IL replacement. It is good. I think I have done a easier conversion, if you will, for it but it does require more machinist tools.
I think the IL looks crappy but the workmanship of the gun is very good. I will buy IL guns. I really like Rugers but the last two I have bought were put together very poorly.
Just my opinion.

But then, in 2003, S&W answered my prayers, and introduced the model 29-8 Mountain Gun. Finally, I had what I felt was the closest thing to the original. At first I didn't even notice the IL, let alone care about it. But then I discovered this forum, and was soon 'educated' and embarrassed to own this insult of a gun.

I can't be alone on this. I know there are IL gun owners like myself who have been bullied into feeling embarrassed about owning them. I think these new classics are the finest guns built since the 1950's. I hope this new revolver section will allow some of you to start posting about your new model 27, or share your excitement over the new model 58.

So, my name is Red, and I own an IL revolver…

Bravo Red! I have owned a lot of S&W revolvers over the years. I have 3 with the internal lock and MIM parts. To be honest they are well made guns and all have been extremely accurate.

I actually quit coming here because of the posters that bash the lock and MIM parts. It's their loss if they refuse to buy these guns.

When you find someone bashing the newer guns ask them what they own. The answers usually are a surprise.

Your point was well made, I'm still laughing.

Amazing that we don't like something yet what we like is almost the same.

I wasn't bashing Ruger. They make fine guns. My point was that many fine guns have some features that could be improved, or done away with. Who owns a box-stock, GI-issue type 1911? Most have extensive modifications, either by smaller shops or the owners themselves. When I buy a S&W revolver it instantly gets new springs, most likely grips, and maybe a front sight. Or, an action job. The IL sucks. So does the magazine disconnect on a HP, and the grip safety on a 1911, and the lettering on some Ruger barrels, but we buy them anyway and deal with what we don't like.
