That is a gorgeous 66-1, I have one with a 2.5 inch barrel. You live in a beautiful area of the country, I spent much time at a family camp in Wetmore township McKean county, fishing the Tionesta, and hunting in the Allegheny forest, Those were magical times in my younger days, I live in NY and have much less love for my area. Here are a couple of pics of my 66-1

Yes it truly is God's Country here. I just picked up a 1950, 5 screw M&P snubbie. Short 66's are few, and far between around here and VERY pricey!

Congrats, they are nice revolvers.

Very nice looking 66 you have there. I have yet to get a 19 or 66. Don't really need 1, but you never know!!! I bought a 13-2 at Sept. gun show. It is a beauty. Had no intention of buying 1. Couldn't pass it up. Bob

Mod 19/66 can be a sickness. I have had sever in all barrel lengths and finishes. I didn't need any of them but loved them all.

Wow I could look at model 66's all day! Is that last one a round butt? I haven't seen many of those at all. My one friend says they are what all 66's should be. That special order, CPD gun is super cool too!

66-1

Yes, it's a Round butt, previous owner had polished it with Mothers. A little too shiny but still a nice looking 66

Well you learn so much on these forums. Immediately after I posted that about the round butt, I looked at the other 2-1/2" 66's posted and thought to myself, gees some of those others pictured here might be round butts too. The various custom grips kind of concealed what was under them to the untrained eye, mine included.

All that I do know is that I like model 66's, have always liked the model 66, have owned a few, and will never be without one again! Back before the internet, or at least before I had internet, information was very localized and restricted. Had I known that the smaller K-frame Magna style grips would have fit a model 66, I would have not parted ways with my first model 66's due to grip size. I might switch to rubber Pachmyers but never switched to a smaller grip. My current 66-1 is the way I like it. Most of my early model 66's were 6 inch models. They look great and shoot very well, but are slow to remove from a holster (not talking about QuickDraw stuff here) and a bit bulkier to carry. I really don't think that I would make a 2-1/2" model 66 my everyday carry piece or my back up hunting gun. I have a 5 screw M&P snubbie and my 4 inch 66-1 for those uses respectively.

My first duty gun

That I purchased - the SW 66. It was the latest, greatest, snazziest thing around what with that stainless steel. I bought mine in '78 or '79 (?) for about $140. Sold it to a friends dad 20 years later ...of course never should have let it go.

Ahhhh welllll-----

Definitely feeling the love for the 66 series. Here's my 66-1 with the emblem of the North Carolina Highway Patrol. You've got me thinking I need a snubbie to go with it! :)

There are a small number of NC SHP Model 66-1's that were made in 2.5 inch. They were issued to the Governor's Security and helicopter pilots. They usually bring a substantial premium when, and its not too often, they come up for sale. A friend of mine has one.
