My Shield I broke-HELP

the back of the guide rod is bigger, so it isn't backwards
my full size 9 did this, just keep messing with it, you'll figure it out
try pinching the barrel and guide rod together when you slide the slide back

note: i always follow the manual when disassembling, however... my take down lever does not always stay down, so maybe before you flame on someone for not following directions you should consider the fact that there could actually be something wrong with his gun, just sayin...

I agree. Tough crowd here.

Same thing happened to me with my .40 Shield.
Same as you, kept messing with it until it went back to normal.

After seeing the reply the first poster received, it's no wonder no one else is admitting they too had this happen to them.

I agree as well, no need to be... well fill in the blank with whatever suits you. A fellow member asks for help and get's flamed for it. Not Cool in my book. I'll keep that in mind if I feel the need to ask for help here. On another forum I visit, I never see this sort of thing, but I have here more than once. Just saying :(

it happens on every forum, over every variety... it happens on face book, pm's, emails... if the OP took offense then they should say something... if they have thick skin and just scroll down than its nothing...

I dont cut anybody any slack for situations like this...

There really isn't any need for a reply like this. There are lots of members here who are extremely knowledgeable, and even professional-level in terms of gunsmithing, but that doesn't mean everyone is. "Read the manual" is good advice, and everyone should...but once a problem has occurred, and the problem isn't in the manual, then advising someone to read the manual isn't of much use. Personally, I find it much easier to learn by reading topics here and watching videos on YouTube...I have read the manuals for each of my guns (unless they didn't come with one, like a used gun for example) but in most cases, they aren't as instructive to me as are other methods.

We've probably all had things happen...and in any case, we shouldn't discourage anyone from coming here to learn. He may or may not have done something incorrectly, so I think giving him the benefit of the doubt while encouraging him to learn for the future is a better way to "instruct."

It isn't backwards. Did you put the small lever sear deactivation down before assembling the slide back on? Bet you didn't.

I don't think you want to bet, cause here is small part of my S&W Family, and have torn wall three down to nothing to get good cleaning. Also on two installed apex trigger, no I don't read manuals, all guys know it's guy thing.
Here's the Family.

Number 1 refer to the owners manual for takedown and re-assembly.

Number 2 dont blame a gunsmith and dont assume they will rake you over the coals. You might also try a Smith and Wesson authorized service center if one exists. they wil be happy to go over your pistol with you I am sure.

Number 3 It is obvious you did not study the manual so it is your fault. Or you dont comprehend what you are reading. Read again.

I dont cut anybody any slack for situations like this you should know better instead of screaming bloody murder at innocent parties. Did you buy it a gunshow? Maybe you can go back there next month and pay an entry fee again and hope you can find Mr. card table dealer.

Knowing your weapon is also part of safe gun handling. Get it right so you dont get it wrong the hard way. And I stand corrected it is a Shield not a Chief and it is sticking its tongue out at you!!

Ya no need for pompass, condesending, sarcastic and smug comments like this one. Jesus the guy was looking for some help/advise from fellow members not to be riduculed. To bad to ,because he/she will prob never post another problem again for fear of being ridiculed. Good job Three-Five-Seven, way to help your fellow forum members.
To answer the question, I also had this happen once (and I read the manual) like the other post said. try to wiggle the extended piece a little bit. It will eventually work its way back into place.
good luck and I hope you continue to use this forum and its members as a valuable form of info.

My Shield 40 had been difficult to re-assemble a few times. The slide has not wanted to lock back in order to tilt up the take down lever. I just give it a few tries and it always eventually locks back. And yes, the sear deactivation lever is in the down position.

Forum Friends

I don't mess with the sear activation. If the gun is empty pull the trigger

If the gun is loaded and you are attempting to break down stop go to computer and list gun for sale and buy a fishing pole.
