My Shield I broke-HELP

So after cleaning the gun, I resembled it, and when I got it together, the spring is sticking out. I can't slide it back to release it, but it will cock, and dry fire, just can't get the slide back far enough to release. I hate to bring it to gunsmith, cause you know they will rack me over the coals.
Looking for idea's.
Here is what the Shield looks right now, with spring sticking out.

did you do the side latch before reinstalling the slide?? take the mag out and lower the little lever, then the out side lever, see if it will break down for ya...

Number 1 refer to the owners manual for takedown and re-assembly.

Number 2 dont blame a gunsmith and dont assume they will rake you over the coals. You might also try a Smith and Wesson authorized service center if one exists. they wil be happy to go over your pistol with you I am sure.

Number 3 It is obvious you did not study the manual so it is your fault. Or you dont comprehend what you are reading. Read again.

I dont cut anybody any slack for situations like this you should know better instead of screaming bloody murder at innocent parties. Did you buy it a gunshow? Maybe you can go back there next month and pay an entry fee again and hope you can find Mr. card table dealer.

Knowing your weapon is also part of safe gun handling. Get it right so you dont get it wrong the hard way. And I stand corrected it is a Shield not a Chief and it is sticking its tongue out at you!!

At first I thought your guide rod was re-installed backwards but it isn't. I honestly have no idea how the end of the guide rod could have made it past the end of the slide. Does the pocket the guide rod fits into in the slide looked deformed or enlarged in any way?

I can tell you, I couldn't get the slide to lock into place, but what you are thinking I believe is the Pro, cause to break that down, there is pin to slide and it break down.
I did get it fixed, next post I explain.

So if this happen to you for some reason, I couldn't even get the slide to lock into place. I just played with spring by turning it, and it popped back into place. Now the weapon is ready to hit the range. The slide locks back, and the spring is hidden.
So if you resemble, try turning the spring, works for me.

I can tell you, I couldn't get the slide to lock into place, but what you are thinking I believe is the Pro, cause to break that down, there is pin to slide and it break down.
I did get it fixed, next post I explain.

nope... i have a normal no BS AZ shield... there is a little yellow lever in the mag well that you tilt into the mag opening, then tilt the side lever down...

My Shield 40 had been difficult to re-assemble a few times. The slide has not wanted to lock back in order to tilt up the take down lever. I just give it a few tries and it always eventually locks back. And yes, the sear deactivation lever is in the down position.

I can't even imagine how you did that in the first place let alone how you got it fixed. It looks ars backwards to me also. No way the spring guide rod will stick out like that if it is reassembled right.

the back of the guide rod is bigger, so it isn't backwards
my full size 9 did this, just keep messing with it, you'll figure it out
try pinching the barrel and guide rod together when you slide the slide back

note: i always follow the manual when disassembling, however... my take down lever does not always stay down, so maybe before you flame on someone for not following directions you should consider the fact that there could actually be something wrong with his gun, just sayin...

It isn't backwards. Did you put the small lever sear deactivation down before assembling the slide back on? Bet you didn't.

I liked that too.

You can do this with an M&P. Don't ask me how I know. I just took the gun apart, double checked everything, put it back together and everything was fine. I am not sure how it happens but it is just an assembly screw-up.

My advice was going to be move the guide rod around but sounds like that's what you did to fix it. I'm thinking you put the slide back on with the take down lever (not the sear deactivation,the one on the frame side) in the normal up position instead of down and the guide rod hung up on it. I've done this.

without it infront of my i think it the internal lever will return with a full rack of the slide. this is why you have to lock the slide back and then do the two levers...

but your right on the guide rod, it will only go in one way...
