they don't make a nickle one and in the winter i have way too much time on my hands so last winter i "shined" her up. it is an earlier one that "had" the big billboard size 1911 on one side or the other. can't tell now. shown with an Alcas knife. the grips are giraffe bone and the holster is an old Heiser. lee

A10, auto body wet/dry paper, then flitz, then jewelers rouge. and lots of elbow grease. glad i did it last year cause now i've got two torn rotator cuffs and one torn bicep. no polishing projects this winter. lee

As bad as that billboard looks, those early pistols are great shooters. I had two of them, one a target model that I traded or sold.

I own few 1911's compared to what I once had, but a Smith is one of the few I kept.

Great pistol you have, very nice work!

How did you do that?? I can even see the recoil spring inside the thing :D

J38, yes it is a stainless gun. it was a little darker out when i took the pics so it's hard to tell. i should try again and replace the picture. it's about as shiney as a nickle gun.

Great looking polish job. I just bought one of the 1911's with the billboard on the side...maybe I will get motivated. Hope your injuries weren't from polishing :). I cannot believe how well I shoot with mine
